A Tiny Bit Of Progress

Very cool!

Hope to kick off my Tiny 10 with a damara dik dik in Namibia in July if all goes well. That's priority #2 since they can only be hunted there, behind the leopard. Havent really looked into the locations of the other 9 especially the harder to collect ones, let alone the methods typically used to hunt them (other than what I've seen in videos), so the rest are TBD. Certainly wont pass an opportunity on a good one if it arises, but still hoping my first safari happens in July, the list is long but I'm sure the other 9 are in thers somewhere, God willing
The main thing is to not pass one up. You may never get back there! Make sure your outfitter has a Dik Dik permit for you. Look forward to your report. Nothing like that first safari!

Don't start! I will take any of them on my next trip. Two tiny's down and many more to go.

The "Tiny Ten" is a marketing tool to get guys interested in these little guys. There are a lot more through-out Central Africa. So, there are always more. They are a blast to hunt especially when using mouth calls.

Just the duiker family: I have seen guys go to Congo and Central Africa just to hunt these little guys. Not all these can be hunted due to population or location.
The tiny ten is a slam of common but widely distributed antelopes. It is a challenge because of the different habitats and countries they come from. It is not meant to be all encompassing as like you say there are scores of small antelope species across Africa.
There are very few of us lucky enough to have them all! But we can dream...

All of mine were by-products of other hunts with buffalo as the primary game animal. However, on my first trips, which were primarily for plains game, I had no interest in them. I easily could have acquired a permit for Damara Dik Dik on any of several trips to Namibia and didn't because I couldn't fathom hunting an antelope the size of a rabbit. :E Doh: I shot a steenbock in Namibia that we used for leopard bait without even thinking about declaring him a trophy and taking him home. :A Bang Head: It wasn't until I managed a long and ultimately successful stalk on an Oribi in Mozambique that stretched the barrel of my S2 Blaser a bit, that I realized what wonderful creatures these things were.
This is me as well. On my first trip to Tanzania I was offered several shots at Dik Dik but passed as just too small to shoot with a .375! Took my first duiker in Namibia a couple years back and that is the only small buck I have.

It is looking like Sharps Grysbuck may be difficult for me. I need it plus Suni, Oribi, & Blue Duiker. I’ll try again for blue duiker this year and maybe Oribi if I can get a permit.
I’ve been after them for a while and either failed or never saw one on several trips now. It has become a real journey.
You can fairly easily knock out all three of the latter in a free range hunt in coastal Mozambique. No special permits required. The free range sable, nyala, Livingstone eland, and Lichtenstein Hartebeest help make the trip worthwhile as well (not to mention the buffalo).

Yes I studied up on that with some of the outfitters at SCI a while back. I just need to make it happen! Now I can not remember which outfitter I liked and found to be able to work hard for the guy after the tiny ten.

This will never happen for me. Wife is very supportive of my hobbies, and doesn't mind animal mounts anywhere in the house. Unfortunately, no tiny antelopes or giraffe for me. :(

Never say never ;) My fiancee does not want me to hunt Buffalo "too dangerous", but some day I'll have some horns delivered to the house ;)

You might send a note to Grant Taylor - https://www.mashambanzousafaris.com/ Good folks. I have hunted with him twice.

I became interested in them after my first safari in Namibia where I shot a Steenbok. Decided if I got a chance at a Common Duiker I'd try for it but the only one I saw was bouncing through long grass and no chance for a shot. Then while on my second safari in the Eastern Cape we had a nice one standing in the open at about a 100 yards. However we were stalking a Waterbuck and decided not to shoot. Never saw another for the rest of the trip. I think about that one a lot.
I'm not interested in collecting the whole Tiny 10, but am very interested in the Common Duiker, Suni, Klipspringer, Dik-dik and Oribi. Not very interested in the Red or Blue Duikers or the Grysboks.

Definitely will have the permit lined up!

Didnt take too much reading to make sure I made a rule for myself to never pass anything I see my PH get genuinely excited about or tells me is truly exceptional, "list" species or not.

My Wife has slowly come around to my desire to hunt Africa (haven't yet but she is now ok with the idea)... I started her conversion when I started hunting black bear where I live (not something you are likely to do in Belgium, but a trip to Canada would give you really good chance!). But after many years and quite a few bears taken. She has come around.

On another note, I see you are from Brussels. Went through there on our holiday to Bruges in 2019. Belgium is one of the best countries in Europe to visit because of the amazing history and the "time capsule" nature of the north. I loved every minute of visiting belgium! I am not going to lie, I am a little jealous of the view out your window and your proximity to such cool places!.

For sure!

Hey Chris, sent you a DM, not to derail the thread too much :)

Like how you have them displayed. The tiny ten and night critters have a way of drawing you in, my first animal in Africa was the common diker. The PH was very excited and told me to shoot, it was the first morning, I still had jet lag, and we were looking for Kudu. I figured he just wanted to confirm I could shoot well. We have 3 of the tiny 10 so far and trying for a few more in the next couple years.

Thank you for sharing your display.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
