A funny on FB, about this site, kinda sorta...

I think negative (truthful) reports are just as important as positive reports. When researching an outfitter, or any product for that matter, I will always skip through until I can find a negative review(s). I want to know the good the bad and the ugly, but I mostly I want to see how it was handled from both sides. I believe that outcome will tell as much about the outfitter and person writing the report as anything. Cant make everyone happy all the time, but how that is handled speaks volumes.

I have been on most of the hunting and outdoor forums over the years. AH is the only one I have stayed with, visit regularly, and support because I believe the vast amount of positive information that is provided here is invaluable to the hunting community world wide, I enjoy the information, and the community that provides it.

I have also been on FB for many years and I am a Moderator on a lively local community forum page. FB is an amazing tool. It's a great way to connect with friends and family and share with them almost instantly things that we would never be able otherwise. A single post can reach hundreds / thousands of people in minutes regardless of truth or context. It can be used to inform, help, educate, entertain, and it can be a weapon. Because of that, it brings out the keyboard warriors that can and will post stuff with out verifying, thinking, or caring about the consequences of what they post. We have to be able to sift through all of that for it to make any sense. Folks that can't or won't do that sifting don't stay stay very long or don't participate much and I don't blame them one bit.

All that said, I didnt see the post that TT is referring. I am probably not on that page (there are several) or I just missed it. But it sounds the the individual that posted the comment likely didn't understand the role of AH and the relationship between AH and the Sponsoring Outfitter, or his reply was poorly written. Either way Social Media is hard, but it's here to stay.....

It’s really too bad there aren’t more reports in the lower third. It seems there are only good and great reports or extremely bad reports sometimes from unhinged clients. It seems most who went on marginal hunts that fall somewhere in the middle just move on and never post a report anywhere. There is a negative hunt report and many negative posts on another forum right now. He uses the words poacher’s paradise and rampant poaching frequently and blames no possible chance of success on ending his hunt early after missing. I hunted the same area last October and had great success and have thousands of trail cam photos of abundant game. I posted my hunt report here. Which report has more effect? Unfortunately I think usually the negative one. Luckily I think that forum and subsequent posts discredit themselves in this case. Makes me appreciate the moderators here, seems to be a good balance of opinions and facts but expressed professionally.

I understand the value of reports not only on this site but on social media as well. I own a homebuilding business that has had a couple of negative reviews over the last 26 years. What stands out especially regarding my last negative review was while the facts they posted are mostly true, they chose to leave out a very important fact that would completely change viewer's opinions of the review. In my case, they posted about flooring issues and mold growing under the home. What they left out was that THEIR plumber failed to connect the master shower drain and they dropped almost a thousand gallons of waste water into the crawlspace over 45 days. So sometimes we have to read reviews with the attitude of "what is missing?" instead of the way it is actually written. Come to think of it, this approach should be taken even with "legitimate" news sources.

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
