sgt zim,

thanks for heads up. i have some hornady's, privi, and north fork softs on hand, so will start with that but thanks!
I'd go ahead and buy them. They're almost always out of stock in those 2 bullets

I'd evaluate how you intend to use the rifle in the future. If you are OK with MOA to 1.5 MOA accuracy, then a rebore should be fine. If you are looking for sub-MOA, you may want to consider spending the extra money and having a new barrel installed. Plus with a rebarrel, it will typically take less time at the gunsmith.
An honest 1 to 1.25 MOA would certainly be fine for my intended use on moose and possibly bear. 200-225 yards would be the maximum shot ranges where I would carry this rifle.
Actually a rebore would be a substantial reduction in time as to having it a rebarrel done around here.

This ^^^^^^

Rebarrel it, don't rebore it.

14 twist is normal, but a 12 twist seems to add 50-75 fps over what you can get out of a 14. Not a big deal either way. I'd go after anything except ele with A Frame 286 or Oryx 285 in my 14 twist rifle, both at around 2350.
The twist rate would be a 1-10, if I go this route. Several ongoing projects at this time.

Where is ‘around here’? I know guys in AK and MT who could handle this easily.

Alaska. I have 4 others at gunsmith for bedding jobs now. I picked up 3 when I dropped these off.
Those 3 included bedding, a barrel cut / crown, and square away a feeding issue. That was a 5 month turnaround.
About 3-4 weeks the re-bore would be done.

There’s a line I was told in regards to optics that seemed perfectly fitting for this thread.

“You never hear someone say their S&B glass is as clear as their XXXX.”

I don’t think anyone will say that their 375 can do anything their 9.3 can. The king will always reign!

Does anyone know for sure WHERE a 9.3x62 can be used on DG, and WHAT DG it can be used on?

Zim, Moz, RSA province by province but generally yes, not sure on Namibia but it sticks in my mind that it is ok for buff. No in Tanzania, Botswana, Zambia.

Have you talked to Gary Junk? He’s one of the best and he’s in North Pole. He did an excellent job on a rebarrel for me. Last fall he turned around the sear recut and tune on a double trigger ‘98 in a couple of weeks.

No I have not I am in the south central area. And as to the 9.3x62 has just been a recent idea, a possible happening.
The actual rifle that I am considering, is actually at my usual gunsmith. It and the others were dropped off a couple of weeks ago. The reason for the potential re-bore is that is a heavier, shorter barrel 30-06 with sights on it. I have not even shot this rifle yet.
I may leave it as is. Or not.
I am familiar with Gary via word of mouth and a couple of folks that I know from the FBX area has had work done. He does do good work

He’s done a lot of work for me, some trigger and re-barrel and some full custom. He is one of the best and a true expert on German rifles. It is worthy of note that every rifle he has worked over for me shoots sub moa. I’m in Bama now but if I have serious work it gets shipped to Gary.

So in the world of one upmanship:

Apprentice Level: So crap the only thing you can shoot accurately is a 9.3x62
Journeyman Level: Can shoot a 450 Lott accurately, and depend on the wounding effect.
Master Level: All you need is a 9.3x62

I gather the elephant had the last laugh...

If that is, in fact, Don Heath...?

... you would gather wrong.

Dont know if I commented on this thread earlier but this much I believe.
Whatever the 9.3x62 can do, the .375 can with with less pressure. I mean seriously lets get real. Loaded to max in rifles of the same barrel length and strength, the .375 cannot be beat by the considerably smaller round. Like saying oh my top .308 loads are more powerful than the .30-06, sure compared to what?
Load them both to max no contest. Same thing here, bunch of baloney.....
The .375 has a larger base to push on and a larger boiler room, end of story, another silly "look what I can do ma", blah blah blah!
NEXT! Here is a pic I posted the other day in another similar thread.

Far right is the .375 with the 9.3 3rd from the right, all holding 70 grs of powder.
Get freaking serious!
