What can I say, just love it. I use it primarily for moose hunting and have hand loaded Norma Oryx 286/320 grain. The effect have always been very good. Usually broadsided them from ~15-200 yards. Have never yet recovered a bullet, but all have made a nice big entry/exit wound
Its an old Husqvarna mod 146, M98 action, i believe it was made 1943! Still going strong. The old man I bought it from (in the nineties) had shot +200 moose with it. I also have two older Sako rifles in 6.5x55, 375H&H and one Blaser S2 in 8x75RS but still automatically takes the 9.3x57 when hunting moose/wild bore/bear. Have an aimpoint H1 or Leo 1-4 on top.

That is the same as mine then, yours just looks different in the shroud/cocking piece. I would be very interested in the stock, I’m just concerned it wouldn’t fit.

Very nice. Though, that beer can on the end doesn't do much for the aesthetics or open sight use. Notice more and more UK hunters seem to be adding them to their rifles. Are they now required in some areas? I have never fully understood their function on a relatively mild-recoiling supersonic round.

Thnx, that was a very interesting article to read. Agreed, for short to medium range on moose i really like this round. Bonded 286gr gives nice SD and controlled expension. It feels good to carry this compact (modified) rifle, with a shortened barrel, while tracking a wounded animal in dense forest knowing it will outpenetrate more or less anything from every angle. This is My gun for My selected hunts. For other conditions, i have other tools. Its not one of my expensive custom rifle its my ”rusty Volvo” that i know will do the job.

I have, I’m more concerned about things like recoil lug placement and bottom metal fit.

I have a Husqvarna 46 Small Ring, HWL also has a 46 but it looks different to mine.

It’s not required but it’s more that it’s a function of their success. Most guys run them for noise and recoil reduction without a thought as to whether it’s even needed, what this has lead to is most neighbours to farms/woodland becoming used to the report of a suppressed rifle.
Due to this, in some areas, it makes sense to run one simply to keep the neighbours happy. In Yorkshire, where I’m from, Boise isn’t that much of an issue as it’s a massive county with lots of land. In Cornwall, where I live, there is lots of land but the population is much more spread out so you get more people near where you’re shooting.
My 458 wasn’t, and my next 458 won’t be, suppressed but it does limit the land where I can shoot somewhat.

Mine, definitely is a M96.

But I am not concerned about that.

The 9,3x57 operates at 2600 bar, the 6,5x55, witch also comfortably houses in M96 actions, operates at 3800 bar.

Husqvarna also proofed at CIP proof pressure regardless of whether small ring or large ring.

For what i have learned the M96 action has a max of ~2900 Bar for a 6.5x55 not 3800, that will be pushing it. So some caution must be taken when handloading for a M96 action. For my Husqvarna modell 146, M98, i aim for ~3200 bar.

9,3x57 is 3000 bar and 6,5x55 is 3800 bar ...whatever a rifle you have.

I wouldn't call the M96 exactly weak, it's proof tested to over 68,000 psi.
The only difference is the M98 has the 3rd locking lug on the bolt. Both are strong enough to handle the 9.3x57.
