I saw a Schultz &Larsen rifle in 7x61 H&S caliber at my local LGS yesterday. It is the first Schultz & Larsen rifle and in a caliber I had never heard of. Has anyone seen or shot one of these?

I've worked on them. Nothing wrong with the caliber. Nothing special about it either. So it comes down to inconvenience. That's fine, be inconvenienced if the gun is extraordinary or super cheap.

The example I had brought to me was a Voere or Kleingunter I think? Very pretty gun if you like that look.

Any 7mm, literally any 7mm, is an awesome gun. The 7x61S&L is an obscure rough equivalent to a 7x64 or a 280 Rem.

We carry 7x61 S&H brass.. The only 7x61 I'm aware of, but I tend to learn something new every day.

I’ve seen a couple in Denmark in 1976 and even hunted red stag with it. Schultz & Larsen rifles are excellent quality. Their Ambassador line is extremely popular amongst Danish hunters.

The 7x61mm Sharp & Hart is a great caliber for red stag and I can’t see why it wouldn’t make for a magnificent plains game cartridge. Hendershots Custom Ammunition loads for this caliber with a variety of bullets (my personal favorite being the Hornady 150Gr “Red Tip“ ELD-X).

You can make your own brass cases from 7mm Remington Magnum brass cases.

I think it was the Schultz and Larson model 56 it can in. The 7x61,S&H was the brain child of Philip Sharpe before the 7mm rem mag. Unfortunately the Remington killed it off. It is every bit the equal of the 7mm rem mag.
The same action was used by Roy Weatherby for his line of magnum cartridges until the development of the MkV Weatherby.
The S&L is a tear locking action similar to the 788 rem and a very strong action.
It was a rifle and cartridge I dreamed of as a kid along with the 348 and a couple of others.

There is a chapter on the 7x61 Sharpe & Hart rifles by Schultz & Larsen in this article.

The rifle will most likely be a Schultz & Larsen model M60, which is a variant of the M54, made for the US market.

I own a left hand Texas Magnum (Google it) in 7x61s&h. It's a good caliber and
I do load for it. Haven't shot anything other than paper with it...one hole groups!

I owned one for years. Took a bull elk and some deer, Used 160 gr Nosler PT bullets. It is similar to the 7mm RM, but a bit shorter.

Yes, this is an older thread but I'm a new guy...

I own 2 of the Schultz and Larsen 7x61 S&H chambered rifles. Both shoot quite well for their age.;)

I do reload for both since Norma makes some very good brass at reasonable prices depending on which supplier has it in stock. This is important since the advent of even better bullet designs these days. The selection is very favorable.

The 7x61 is every bit the measure of the 7mm Rem Mag. and as stated just a little shorter but with an 'improved' shoulder angle. There is still sound reloading data available also.

I am interested in your 7x61 S&H dies, but I cannot figure out how to PM you. LOL sorry.

I saw this Schultz & Larsen m60 the other day and knew immediately that I had to get it. It was bought at Bitburg Airbase on June 8th, 1960, and had the original bill of sale. That original owner sold it to me, and now it has 2 bill of sales. View attachment 597428

You need a Leupold 3-9x for that one and 160 Nosler NP and RWS VollMantel bullets ,and then its off to see the game around the world.
Very fine rifle , they dobt turn up often.

Hello,

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?

Thank you.
