I am plaining on building a 585 nyati rifle and I need help in deciding what actions to use. I have heard that a rem 700 action will work. I have also heard that a 1917 endfield and 1914 one will work as well. Will any of these options work and is there any better options that Isent to expensive?

I would not try it with a 700. Art Alpin (A-Square) relied on the P-14 and P-17 (essentially identical and much easier to find in this country) for most of his hideously ugly but powerful rifles. Truly curious why anyone would want a 585?

Because….why not….
I support building of any rifle in (almost) any calibre as it gets rifles "out there"
Although I would suggest shooting one first to make sure it’s what you want
Oh, and to the OP, M17 Enfield would be my pick, there are others , but a lot more expensive

Didn't ask you. Curious why he was building such a rifle.

I just thought it would be cool and fun project. I was plaining on buying a 460 wby but I was trying to get the best bang for my buck so I started looking at other big bore rifles and I think that I can build one for close to the same price as a 460.and I just wanted to make sure will the p17 and p14 actions handle the pressure of the 585?

And the m17 can handle the pressures of the 585 nyati right?

I don't want to talk you out of your choice, but for that money I would rather have a nice rifle caliber 460 Weatherby Magnum built. A rifle caliber 460 Weatherby Magnum is because of the recoil anyway at the upper limit of what can reasonably be used, but is much more versatile if you need to shoot something other than heavy dangerous game. As an owner of rifles caliber 460 Weatherby Magnum and 500 Schüler, I can only warn you that good handling and especially accurate shooting with such rifles, assuredly also with a heavy rifle caliber 585 Nyati with has surely a much more stronger recoil that the two quoted above, will not be easy. By the way, every PH will keep an eye on you to make sure you don't further worsen the already poor statistics on wounded heavy dangerous game by big bore shooters.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
