I have a 585 Hubel Express built by Ed Hubel that I never got a chance to hunt with. Long story, I was having Ed help me out with a 585 HE to take back to Tanzania with me as we lived there as missionaries. Before we could get it finished my wife developed an illness that we had to return to the states for. Now I have this monster rifle and no opportunity to use it in Africa.

It needs to be finished and taken to Africa...

Are you trying to sell it ? Your post makes it seem that way but unclear. Very cool rifle , I like the Enfield based rifles.

Yes, I'm going to be posting it in the classifieds, if it was LH no way I would sell it but alas its a righty.

When you posted it, please show a picture of the opposite side, provide length of pull, and any information on who loaded the ammo. Do you have dies? What is required for it to be “finished”? Does it feed/function?

I'm looking into what it would cost to get it finished now. May be worth me doing that and then putting it up for sell, not sure yet. It feeds and functions, holds 2 down + 1 and feeds ok but needs cleaned up. Needs new follower and I'd probably see about getting to hold 3 down if possible. It needs a nicer "big bore" rear sight base/sight installed. All metal needs blued/re-blued and the stock needs to be finished, i.e., sanded down, finished oiled, etc..

Ed Hubel, the creator of the round is the one who built this rifle and he also loaded all the ammunition. He passed away a couple years ago I believe. I do not have the reloading dies but I know they are available.

Funny background: I started this project after being charged by 2 bull elephants while helping the game department with PAC elephants in Tanzania. The .510 caliber I was carrying at the time shooting 570 grain bullets just didn't seem big enough with those bulls at 10 yards :)
P.S. The game scouts don't stand their ground, they run...

That cartridge always fascinated me, I was told Ed’s business was closing but someone else said it was still going, so not sure. It will be an interesting rifle when finished (y)

It really is a neat cartridge, that packs an amazing amount of energy. The fact that you can load these 700-750 grn rounds to 2200-2400 fps and that be a relatively mild load for it is crazy. I lost touch with Ed after we moved back from Africa to Alaska he was a good one. Kind of ashamed of myself for not finishing this rifle before...

It certainly is, I'm currently waiting for mine to be finished as well that I bought from a member here. I do have some of the old load data from Ed if you are ever interested in it. He told me that a good 22" barrel should be able to just reach 2800 fps with a 750 gr solid, which is quite the load!

What action is yours built on? My intent was to get this built on a left handed action but I was broke when we left Africa so I had to abandon that dream.

Mine is on the same action as yours, but we are looking at possibly building an action for it, simply due to how much metal has to be removed to make that size cartridge work!

Yeah, I wish the Montana 1999 were still in production. They had that magnum size that would work for these 4" cases. They had left hand too but alas no more.

I have done my best to hunt down that action, but to no avail. The only thing that would work to keep things in the traditional sense is a custom action or a granite mountain arms action. Lots of options to choose from, but seem to dwindle each day!

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

X5i scope is perfect - thanks for an easy transaction! Buy with confidence.
Made it to Augusta Georgia yesterday for a meeting, hunt bookings are looking good for 2026 and 2027, had a great time on our Alabama safari shot a rutting deer at 200 yards with 7mm PRC near Huntsville and then headed on to Butler Alabama and semi guided my first deer ever shot a very nice broken off 8 point with hunter there and spend a few days on 1100 acres hunting preserve awesome place!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
