.577 Tyrannosaur

Searching for anyone who can reload 577 T-Rex. I have new brass.

Ten of the rounds I loaded with 750gr Woodleigh soft points for the range this weekend.

In my initial foray into Big Bores, at my LGS in the upstate of South Carolina years ago, I met a gentleman, while I was doing the paperwork on a .416 Rigby.

We talked guns, but when he mentioned his .577 T-Rex, he said the recoil was just "violent"; this after a Lang .470NE and a WJ Jeffery .475 #2. I decided to stay in the .400 to .450 realm.

I had a .500 Jeffery CZ 500 for awhile.

Have to know limitations.

Its not as bad as people perceive. The A-Square rifles have a much wider stock to to spread out the recoil over a much larger area of the shoulder. I would estimate double the surface area. Its still going to shove though.

How’d the range trip go? Would you mind sharing pictures of your rifle?

Range trip went alright, but didnt stay long.

I broke out my old computer to get you some pics as I needed to move those files over.

The first pic is the Hannibal over a well used 458 Whitworth, & a Marlin 1895 in 45/70.

A jpg of the receipt of the order back in 2008. It took a three years to get around to building my Hannibal. My rifle was the last 577 out the door and my FFL recieved it in Jan 2012.

The last pic was sent while working on my rifle. The top stock was the original they worked up and I requested something more light with a darker fore-end. The sent me this pic for my OK.

You did me a huge favor; becuase, while going through the old files looking for photos, I found a video I completely forgot about. I recorded myself shooting the first shot with that rifle back on Jan 28th, 2012. I uploaded it to Youtube & the link is

Very nice! You made it look easy! I would be shocked if one ever got sold for $4450 again!

I will add them. I believe there was a member that got a .450 #2 around the same time I posted this. I didn’t want to hijack this thread anymore…

So the list you created are all firearms you own? If so, I am VERY impressed and maybe a little jealous..

having been told that it is difficult to come by in the States, but such an impressive
list needs to include one of the best cartridges for Africa,
the 9,3x64 !

MNR tastefully builds them.
There was an AHR 585 for sale, beautiful build. I contacted Wayne, they discontinued the 585 and the seller had the only remaining available Brass. "And that was that .. As they say"

Thanks - just ordered the last 100 in stock at Bertram USA.

I'm currently working on a 45/70 case necked up to .72 caliber to seat a 12 guage shotgun slug in the neck.

Only problem is that it can't be chambered from the breech so, I just drop the loaded cartridge down the barrel instead.
How is this possible??? Necking up a .458 straight walled case to .72 and safely fire it???

Oh it’s possible if the bullet jam is used as the headspace stop. Possible once anyway as the fire forming shot would be quite the educational experience :)

I just wonder where some of these ideas surface out of the woodwork sometimes....
