When I seal brass 12g cases I use beeswax on the overshot card, this is with BP for target loads, never used them for hunting, water glass would be probably better for that

What is the velocity of this load?
What are other powder options?
Thanks
This is good information on shot patterns in rifled long guns. Thanks.mgstucson,
When I first tried it, I used a second gas check as the over-powder wad.
Thinking it might scrape lead too.
But I found patterns were much better without it.
It may act as a spreader smacking the shot in the rear.
And does it go sideways while going down the bore or only after it leaves the muzzle ?
Just a thin card wad over powder was better, and the one inverted gas check
roll-crimped at case mouth over a full shot charge.
I like the idea of some glue around the edge of the case mouth/gas check.
Maybe fingernail polish or primer sealant, on primer too.
The shot shells will be carried a lot for the occasional use.
Yes, protruding shot capsules are too delicate.
Also good info. ThanksSodium silicate, water glass is what it used to be called. Clear as water and dries hard
I believe you opened your mouth and stuck your foot in it, we are talking about grouse and snake loads, state side.Well, yeah! The 458 Win Mag is basically a 45-70 on steroids. Straight case, 500 grain bullet, you know, just like a 45-70. A bit more oomph. Same bullet, just 50% faster. But pretty much useless as far as cartridges go. Very few people even in Africa use it due to failures to penetrate on dangerous animals, and too much recoil to use it every day. Way over-rated. 416 or a 375 are a better choice.
