I believe that will get it done Sir, I have loaded that bullet for over 5 years to 1050 fps in 45 ACP +P with Longshot, 1300 fps with 800X powder in all steel 5 inch 1911 45 Super.

Woods carry around here for black bear, mountain lion, wild hogs and the enamel lacking, smooth mouthed mountain cookers while archery hunting whitetails, hope I never need them!

Here it’s Grizzly and Black Bear Defense. Over the years I have progressed from 44 Mag to 10mm to 45 Super +P as my sidearm while fishing and camping. I was covered up with Grizzly Sows and Cubs last moose season I packed up camp and left only after 2 days of hunting moose.
I wish they still made 800X excellent powder in 45 Super. Longshot and Power Pistol is what I use today excellent results also.
200gr Lehigh pent very excited to use this bullet coming from the 250/255 weight I normally use in 45 Super. Close to 1300 fps should be a good performer on Bear !

AK338, You bet, I like heavy hardcast as well, it definitely has it's place in the game fields, a buddy and I had a barrier test shoot one day, he shot 250gr flat nosed hardcast in his 45 Super, I shot the 200gr Lehigh penetrators in my 45 Super, old car doors, windshields, stumps, cattle leg, femur and pelvic bones, appliances, propane bottles and tanks.

Many times the Penetrators made it through and the hardcasts did not, I believe the hardcasts didn't simply because they're not as hard as a monometal solid, maybe not needed in a hunting situation, but, with so many guns, I like one load for every weapon I have.

Overcoming barriers is part of what I'd ask my 45 Super to do, keeps it much simpler, at the conclusion of that days shooting, he asked where to buy the penetrators then asked for my load data ; ]

I shoot the Lehigh penetrators in 38 Super, 357 Sig and 10mm.

I also agree on 800X, very glad I grabbed several pounds of it when I first started loading 45 Super.

I wish the made a Lehigh Pent in 200gr for the 10mm.
A bullet that I have good luck with in 45 Super
9.0 of LS or PP is the CamPro .452 in 250gr RNFP.
It has a .008” thick plated . No problem dispatching my HardCast are 250 gr are 22 BHN RNFP Tek coated. The 22 BHN is my preferred hardness in Alaska.

Hello AK338,

All is not lost for your 10mm, or mine, go to Lehigh bullets website, they have in stock and ready to ship, .400" 185gr Extreme penetrators and 190gr monolithic flat nosed solids, those two bring the 10mm up a couple classes in punching power and penetration.

The Sierra 190gr FPJ I have dispatched several moose over years with that bullet using 14.0 of AA9 and CCI 350.

Today I use 220 Berry FN TP Flat Nose Thick Plated and 8.6 of Longshot with WLP primers 1200 FPS load in 4.6” KkM G20. This bullet also is .008” thick plated for Heavy Game.

For Alaska and Bear Protection I much prefer the diameter of .452” over the .400” especially for Bear. Both will work but the bigger hole is better of the two . The 45 Super is definitely a handloader’s cartridge but is easy to load if your Glock is setup properly to handle it !

Below is Berry 220gr FNTP

Good to know Sir, I also agree on the larger bores, having had to not shoot a Bear or Moose in defense or hunting them at all, bigger bore has to be better, that said, have ran a small drills here at the farm with my 1911's in 45 Super and10mm comparing them to single action revolvers in 454 Casull and 500 Linebaugh.

I used both hands, single hand, weak side single hand, firing from prone, prone off elbow single hand, back, both sides, even on back looking back over my head, it was no comparison, the semi-autos beat the big bore revolvers handily in speed of fire and accurate hits on the cardboard shipping boxes I had placed about, I love my big bore revolvers, and would use them without care as a main hunting weapon.

But, carrying a long gun with handgun strapped on for secondary protection, nothing beats a semi-auto for me.

I went thru the 454 years ago had 2 FA premier great pistols good heavy built a 6” and 7.5” used mostly hot 45 Colt loads in them with 250/255gr.
Still had my Ruger Red Hawk 4.2” 44mag I carried it the most. Then I went thru a bear defense course with shotgun and handgun changed everything.
I had a Glock 20 that was a safe queen turned out to be best scored hits of anything I had. Since I have went thru 3 generations of Glock 20 to my current Gen 4. It’s carried the same KKM barrel I used on my Orginal. I have been using a G21 setup the same a gen 4 for 45 Super that I really like for about 2 years now with the same bullets I used in my 454/45 Colt plus the new Lehigh 200gr Lehigh at 1275 fps.
