.416 Ruger Brass issue

Yeah, I wouldn’t pay $170/box for .416 Ruger ammo. Midway HAD (seems the often used word today) Buffalo Bore 450gr Barnes for $129/box last week but now says you can backorder it (I’ll bet not at that price?). As for the rifles, I just bought a 2024 model year .416 Guide Gun from an AH member, so they are NEW production rifles.
Buffalo Bore has plenty of the 416 Ruger 350 Lehigh solids in stock directly. If I was looking for brass, I’d buy 2 or 3 boxes in a heartbeat, shoot em and never look back

After watching this video I’ve gained a lot of respect for the owner of Buffalo Bore ammo for putting it out there.

If you got some of the new .416 Ruger brass, I would check your brass before loading it.
I've had issues with .416 ruger Hornady brass in the past - I couldn't get it to chamber, eventually found out it was actually too long - I'd never had that happen before

My experience with Hornady brass is that it is relatively soft and I won’t use it again. Thankfully I don’t have a 375 or 416 Ruger.
I’ve not seen that to be a problem with various lots of hornady Ruger brass. I have that brass reloaded and shot at least 7 times without issue. Annealed every other firing.

For factory head stamped 416 Ruger brass, Hornady is the only game in town.
Maybe Norma would manufacture .375/.416 Ruger brass? They make a lot of way more obscure cartridge reloading brass than those two.

I have always liked Norma brass. Maybe ADG might pick up the Ruger cartridges as well. Both companies are known for sturdy brass. I know ADG already makes 300 PRC, so it would take very little to simply change the headstamp on the cylinder brass, and size it. Shoot, if they just headstamped the cylinder brass and sold it that way, we could just run the cylinder brass into a FL sizing die and have finished brass. This is what Qual Cart does with Whelen brass. They headstamp 30-06 cylinder brass with the appropriate Whelen moniker, and sell it as cylinder brass. Qual Cart is another option for doing Ruger 375/416 brass as is Starline. Any of the above is likely to equal or best Hornady for quality, especially in light of these latest videos and reports of poor quality control by Hornady.

There are several manufacturers in play here. Hornady for the brass and Ruger for the chamber and Buffalo Bore for the initial complaint. So far no one has suggested checking to make sure the chamber is in specification BEFORE pointing the finger to the ammunition/brass.
FWIW, I FL resize all new brass as it is MUCH easier to bump a shoulder back to fit than to push it forward. Also it is foolish not to spend 10-minutes to chamber each round of your hunting ammo after spending the money for transportation, licenses, guide fees, etc for the trip.

MAYBE this recent alleged quality control issue at Hornady works in our favor. Maybe now they have to run a big batch of good quality 416 Ruger brass just to quiet the criticism.

BTW I just picked up 300 rounds of new Hornady 416 Ruger brass on GB. The auction said they had 10 bags of 50 available, but when I ordered 6, they closed the auction. I am definitely going to size and trim it all from the get-go.

I guess after a 3+ year drought created by Hornady not manufacturing reloading brass for the .375 and .416 Ruger cartridges, the demand is STILL greater than the available supply? This seems to be a continuing issue with these and other Hornady proprietary cartridges.
