416 Rigby on a Brno Zkk 602 action

Ah, understand. Anyway, because some details, it seems to be made more than probably, before 1970/71.
Great!

Hi Clodo
Thank you.
Unfortunately the original stampings/engraving were polished off during the custom build so I’m not sure. I am attaching a photo of the original the original bottom for interest. The donor action was originally from a 458 WM and it has the indentations on the magazine box.

Just curious, did this magazine box show dents in the front due to rounds slamming forward under recoil? I believe the standard mags will accommodate a 3.6+ OAL and heavy calibers suffer deformation of the box under heavy use,.

Hi baxterb

The mag box in the picture has no dents. I’m not sure how many rounds where put through the weapon before I got it. I immediately replaced it with a custom bottom metal. As mentioned previously it was from a 458WM.

Very good.

Many years ago I worked with Duane building that bottom metal. A hell of a lot of work goes into them!

Just wondering if anyone has built a 416 Rigby on a Brno ZKK 602 action (originally 375 H&H or 416 RM). Was there any difficult/expensive gunsmithing required? Feed issues? How many in std Mag box? etc.
@Neale
Yes , they have . During the 1970s and 1980s , John Rigby & Co used the BRNO ZKK-602 actions to built countless of their .416 Rigby rifles .

As the article below illustrates ( see bottom photograph of first page ) , the .416 Rigby is quite ideal for the BRNO ZKK-602 action .

I think that Anayeth ( Professor Mawla )’s article and the fact that John Rigby & Co. themselves used to build .416 Rigby rifles on the BRNO ZKK602 action , tells us a lot about this subject . Without a doubt , the BRNO ZKK602 would be a great action for the .416 Rigby ( or indeed , anything short of the .505 Gibbs ) .

Hello,

Yes, indeed! I have (must find it....) a magazine, I think Big Bore Rifles, anual or periodical Guns & Ammo publication from the 90´s, with an article written by Craig Boddington, about an African safari with Paul Roberts, John Rigby´s owner then. That safari was mainly for testing the new 450 Rigby. They tryed two versions of the rifle for this cartridge, both made on BRNO ZKK 602.
I always wondered myself why Rigby erased the original BRNO dovetailed integral scope base rails....

I have that other article about which Luke Samaras wrote, ill post pictures of it asap i find the magazine.

They removed those mount systems to use their own versions, and likely to take away some of the Brno's distinct looks.

Hi PerH,

Yes, I know that was the reason to remove the BRNO dovetailed bases. They aimed then to traditional, mostly british, potential Rigby rifle buyers, I think.
In the rifles of that article, they used lateral scope mounting systems...why to use a simpler and stronger system if a more complicated and weaker one can be set up...!!!

Best!

I recently aquired a 602, chambered in 416 Rigby. Don't believe it is a factory chambered rifle, but the stamping is pretty good. Wondering if it is a barrel off a CZ550?

Rookhawk, you need to read this old thread.

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
Ready for the hunt with HTK Safaris

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
