40th Birthday Problem... (Help Needed)

considering the hunting you have done so far, and depending on your taste, I think you are due for a mountain hunt preferably in a remote wilderness area. It would be very different than what you have experienced so far, IMO cannot be beat for pure hunt satisfaction and is one you don't want to leave until you are in your 60s.

I would recommend either Mountain Goat, Mid Asian Ibex, Tur or really there are quite a few that are in or well below your budget and all are an adventure you would cherish for a lifetime and all mentioned are near 100% success rate.

I agree. There is nothing like chasing critters up high in the rocks. Goats or Sheep.

The best advice is what Pieter at Paw Prints gave you keep your wife happy!

I'm going to put my vote on a Mountain Goat hunt.

Well I think that's a pretty good predicament to be in. I'd be glad to help if I can at least from a Texas whitetail or mule deer standpoint. I also have some exotics. No matter what you choose to do, whether it be an adventure hunt for some rare exotic species or a good ol fashioned deer hunt I hope you are able to accomplish your dreams! Good luck

Why do just one hunt? Split it up. But Ive been told that mountain hunting is a young man's game. So I would go with that.

By the way does your wife have a sister?:)

Welcome to the forums, that's a tough predicament. The grizzly or brown bear is a great hunt. That would be my choice.

To many on here "good old fashioned deer" are an exotic species lol

Welcome to AH Ado! I wish I had a problem like that! Have fun which ever you choose.

Ado,

Welcome to the best forum.

I have lived in Alaska for I think 32 years now.

At the moment, we have too many predators of all sorts, including grizzly and black bear both.

Their numbers go up and down so, now is the time if you are interested in bear hunting in Alaska (wolf, coyote, fox and lynx as well right now).

If you cannot find a guide or outfitter within this forum that you are comfortable with, I highly recommend Wayne Kubat, as he has an awesome reputation/high success rate and specializes in grizzly primarily.

I have known him almost as long as I've lived here and do not know of anyone who has ever spoken a harsh word about him.

I do not get any sort of reimbursement from Mr. K., he is just a friend of mine and is the one who I would book with if wanting a guided bear hunt.

Good luck with it all,
Velo Dog.

I also turn 40 late in the year next year. I have always dreamt of a lion hunt so my wife gave me the go ahead to hunt one in 2015. I am thinking that I will add a sable to the hunt as well as some shark cage diving and bungy jumping.
I would tell you to pick the one hunt that you have always wanted to do above all others. When you are on this hunt be sure to find a fine jewelry store and treat your wife as well!
Good luck in your planning.
Dave

Instead of one hunt, why not several? Maybe like Saskatchewan Caribou and a Texas whitetail, and an Alaskan Blackbear. Or Central America wingshooting, and NZ Red Stag and Hawaiian Goat? The possibilities are endless....
Great idea!
Thanks,
Ado.

Thanks - yes I best not forget to look after her as well...
Going to put it into another perspective, you mentioned you are turning 40, I would go and find the hardest most difficult hunt for a species I really want and that is uncommon in most trophy rooms. It all depends on the person, but life being what it is we spend less and less time getting fit after 40 years of age, walking or sitting in a blind waiting for a cat you can do at almost any age. Climbing mountains on foot for days or hunting in the snow and freezing cold in the Artic is a challange I hope to someday test myself against. No matter what species I would hunt, I would make sure it will be the hardest hunt (physically) I could find out there. Good luck on making a chioce, its a nice problem to have:)
wise words indeed - thank you!!!

Hello Ado

If I were in your position and looking for a new experience other than Africa, my dream hunt would be Mountain goat in North America and Alpine Ibex in Europe.

Im not sure of the prices and tags etc but I'm sure somebody on this forum could find Outfitters and Prices for you.

Only an Idea

Regards

I agree for the mountain goat very, very challenging..............polar bear would be next on the list.

Bit of a pickle you find yourself in!!!!
As Pieter said keep the wife happy and whatever hunt you book you sure will have fun!!!

... Maybe like Saskatchewan Caribou ...QUOTE]

Might just as well add Saskatchewan seal hunt as well :) lol. Saskatchewan has a few caribou that are reserved just for residents of the WMU they are located in, even other residents cant hunt em. Saskatchewan Whitetail sure, YT BC NWT Nunavut QC Labrador or Newfoundland caribou all fit in there though.

Congratulations for the 40th......and a great wife!
Considered East African sitatunga, Eland, buffalo or large impalas/waterbucks?

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
