375 Ruger

To each their own... there are other ways to protect your hearing. Go ahead and lug around your suppressed rifle, with my full support and blessing. I will pass.
There are. If you use them 100 percent of the time. There is no way to mitigate concussive blast without them however.

Hell of a moose in your profile btw.

Love my Alaskan, I’ve killed upwards of 40 head of game with it. From Bushbuck to elephant.
Matter of fact it’s up a tree stand with me right now, hoping for a whitetail.

H.S Precision replacement stock was an easy upgrade and not super expensive. Stocky's stocks has them. Add Alaskan Arms quick detach scope mounts and get after it.
We should all start emailing Alpha Precision to get them to make 375 Ruger brass. They make 7 PRC which it based off 376 Ruger. Their brass is top notch.

I have a Gunwerks Skuhl chambered in 375 Ruger and love it. I reload 270 gr Barnes TSX at 2800 fps and it duplicates the factory 300 gr ammo energy with much better accuracy and much lower recoil.

I’m able to hit steel plates with it no problem out to 500 yds. I used it on a safari and took animals with this loads from 50 yds to 200 yds off of sticks. All animals were absolutely devastated by this load.

Animals taken:
-Cape Buffalo
-Sable
-Kudu
-Zebra
-Water buck
-Gemsbuck
-White Blesbuck

I know the Skull has a controversial look. But I really like the worn look they did. And of course they are accurate. Did you buy the package with scope and custom turrets to dial out to 500

Am curious about the Ruger safety issue and a PH, in a tight spot. Agree with many other experienced hunters, that the Ruger 3 position safety, is not as ergonomic, as the Model 70 Winchester safety.
Can you share some more details?
If someone is better at using the search function than me (it gives me way too much) feel free to go looking for more on his story on this forum.

The write up is here:

I had them mount the scope but I did my own loads and ballistic work.

My PH loved the gun couldn’t believe how light and low recoiling it was when I let him try it out.

How do you like it?
Out to about 150yds it’s great. I think if I put a higher magnification on it I could stretch it out a bit farther. I’m sure the cartridge is capable. I also have 3 other Leopolds that I really like along with a couple of Trijicons.

I have a ruger alaskan with the hogue stock and love it. I may even like it better than my model 70 safari express in 375 hh and I love that gun. That little stainless ruger works for dangerous stuff in Africa, and elk hunting in the US, or bear hunting...or deer hunting or just a bad weather gun for anything...or a good weather gun for everything. It’s very versatile. I much prefer the hogue stock to the laminated wood one. The worst thing about the 375 ruger is hornaday. They never make runs of brass for it and you are basically stuck with their soft or solid loads as nobody else is producing it to my knowledge. You can make brass out of the prc cases in a pinch but that doesnt help you of you need to travel to places that check

Not even if you are a handloader... try finding brass... unobtanium.
Surprisingly, Hornady released quite a bit of the.375 Ruger brass a few weeks ago several of the sporting goods stores that carry reloading supplies had it. It’s most likely all sold out now and yes it’s been like fairy dust.

I have a .280ai and .375ruger both in M77 Hawkeye African as well some earlier M77 MKII. I love them all and all are good shooters and reliable.

The .375 has nice wood but I looked through and waited for many on gun broker to find the right one. The .280 was the stained 2x4 @Red Leg mentioned. Surprisingly, I striped the tinted urethane on it and did an oil finish and it brought out some colors and grain….looks 100% better but still no high grade.

I actually find the ergonomics fine. I’m a big guy but prefer a slender rifle. I’m not sure if the stock dimensions have changed but the drop is right for me. I have a straight tube 1x8 with 30mm tube mounted in Warne qd medium rings and I don’t have issue with cheek bruising shooting irons either.

All of my M77’s the same 3 position safety my Winchester 70s have and so I don’t have any issue there after using that setup for 40 years.

They are CRF.

I like them but that’s just me….

I will just add what starts as a stained 2x4 can develop some character with the right finish.

Still no AAA fancy walnut but much better

And if you wait you can even find one with decent wood. This is my 375. I’m going to strip the tinted finish from it as well. I believe it will be quite nice refinished.

Many of my 90's and early 2000's M77 and No.1's had terrific Walnut with good grain... but the character went way down when they started making the Hawkeye series of M77. You can still run across a good one here and there, but you need to get lucky.

I think overall quality started to collapse with the death of Bill Ruger in 2002. He demanded great stock design, above average quality wood, unique engineering, and industry leading creations like the No. 1, Safari Magnum, and the Red & Gold labels. Not all were successful, but all offered amazing value for the owner. Rather like Winchester in 1964, the accountants seem to have taken over.

I agree they ain’t pretty. I never liked the laminate stock at all. The hogue was practical but I didn’t care for it much either. Give me real wood or metal. I do like carbon fiber also.

I believe that turned out to be solid advice from @Red Leg.

Did you send out your stock to be refinished or did you do it yourself? If sent out, who to?

Also are you running after market 3 position safeties or am I reading something wrong? If so what maker?

Beautiful work by the way.

I have personally found the Ruger Hawkeye African to be a great rifle. Very thin and trim with great handling. No it’s not a Ruger RSM or a Rigby or ever will be. It is very similar in stock profile and handling characteristics to vintage Rigby’s and the Rigby Highland Stalker.

Reza Call me any time you want to talk about Elephant. hunting and CMS.
I've hunted two Elephant with CMS.
In 13 African safari's and an equal number of North American hunts, BUZZ is the best guide I have ever hunted with.
