375 Hornady GMX

375 Hornady GMX used in a 375 H&H this morning on a Cape Buffalo. Bull was shot once through the lungs at about 90 to 100 yards. Traveled maybe 50 feet before collapsing. Dead by the time we walked up to the animal a few minutes later. Here is a photo of the recovered GMX. Buffalo weighed 740 kg (1,628 lbs).

That is about as good as it gets when it comes to bullet performance. Your photo looks like it came out of a Hornady advertisement instead of a buffalo. I assume pictures and more photos are on the horizon. Congrats on all fronts. How about posting this to AH's Bullet Performance Data Base?

Nice mushroomed bullet. Looks like it did a perfect job.

Nosler Guy, here is what I used (see link below). My barrel is close to 26" and the muzzle velocity is over 2900 fps.

this is a fine example of using lighter weight bullets when they are mono-metal (i dont think Hornady makes a heavier GMX for the 375).

Thanks, Matt. I also used the bullet on a large Cape Eland and smaller antelope. The eland was over 1,600 lbs. Here is an image.

A Hornady bullet killed an animal???????? This can't be true Congrats on a great buff. We've taken several types of buffalo, lion and loads of plains and North American game with the GMX and have experienced similar results! We'll be taking them to Tanzania here in a few weeks as well. That's some great velocity out of an H&H. We are running 2860fps with handloads in a 24" barrel.

nice buffalo! great performance from the bullet. used the same ammunition on a hunt in 2016. great performance on pg animals. killed the gemsbok in avatar with the same ammo. shot it at 250+/- yds w/ Ruger #1. It ran about 10 yards up hill, staggered back down the hill, and fell over backwards so hard it drove its horns into the ground with its head pinned back. tracker and ph had to pull the horns up out of the ground and roll it over on its side.

I love the terminal performance I’ve found with recovered GMX in 375 Ruger. But I can’t get any consistent accuracy with either Hornady Superformance or extensive hand loads. 2.5 inch groups off the bench @ 100yds is the best I can get. Switched to Swift A-Frames and under 1 inch with every load. Love to use the GMX Any advice to improve the accuracy would be very welcome?

I know that Hornady gets a bad rap on AH, but I must say, my .375 H&H CZ loves the DGX ammo. I get very tight groups at 100 and 200 yards. Not sure why others don't have the same results so would appreciate feedback.

It's not about accuracy Doc. And it's not just on AH that the DGX gets a bad rap. Talk to me at DSC or Vegas in a few months.

Definitely does seem to be a step up in performance from their DGX. And a good thing there is a viable alternative to the DGX in th hornady lineup.

Not Hornady GMX, but with Barnes monolithics I have to adjust the COAL (cartridge over all length) to make mine shoot well. Once the best powder charge is determined using Barnes's COAL recommendation, I start changing the COAL by .010 first shortening it. To date my 375 H&H has been able to consistently get 5/16-5/8" groups using Barnes 235 TSX, 250 TTSX and 300 TSX. My 300 Win Mag 5/8" with Barnes 165 and 168 TTSX. And my 30-06 1/2-5/8" using Barnes 130, 150 and 168 TTSX.

If you don't handload, I'd give the Barnes Vor-TX ammo a try. Granted it's more costly, but again with my guns everything is under 1" when I do my part. Hardly worth the difference to reload except I enjoy it and I shoot a lot.
