.375 h&h for whitetails

375 h&h works great for whitetail. I am not sure load matters much but the 270 grain core lock works great in my experience
A 225gr Core Lokt from my .338 WINCHESTER MAGNUM works great on elk too.

I took 3 whitetails with my 375 h&h this year. I used 300gr power shock that I had laying around. I like it - put them down quickly with no more meat damage than what I normally see with a 45-70 or .308.

Nope a .300wm and .458wm but no 375, I’d build a .375 chatfield Taylor if the caliber more manufacturer support.
The .375 Taylor is a necked up .338WM as you already know. But the .300 and .458WM use the same cartridge case as the .338WM so it would be possible to create the Taylor through incremental steps with different die sets. Better to get a .338WM and have the barrel rebored and chambered to .375 Taylor. I’ve thought about doing the same but then found a .375 Ruger Guide Gun. The cost anymore for a new barrel with sights and/or rebarrel and the accompanying gunsmithing costs for a .375 Taylor are an exercise in diminishing returns for me.

A former friend (rip) used his 375 regularly on Roosevelt elk. He hunted knife edged ridges and wanted them to drop to the shot.
I have some 250 gr A Frames that would probably not do much differently to a 220 nobler out of a 30'06. Hate to waste them on light game, though.

I’ve shot white tails with 270 and 300 grain partitions. Not big deer smell east coast deer. Put one through the shoulder and it doesn’t matter if it expands. It’s doing the same damage as an expanded 270 or 25 caliber bullet.

Don’t overthink it. A big bullet causes rapid blood loss. That’s ultimately what kills.

If I did decide to build one I’d just buy another tikka t3x and have it rebarreled, I did the same with my .458wm bought a second .300wm tikka and had it barreled over. Only reason I would consider a Taylor is that it fits the action with no modifications.

Good idea and the Tikkas are nice rifles.

I used 375 on deer once but it is not my favorite deer rifle. Why? It is heavy and no more accurate than a 270 or 308. It is not necessary for deer but works great and as others said, it does no more meat damage than other hi-power rifles. Less than some of the smaller, faster magnums. Like I said, I do not like it for deer but laugh when others say it is a bad choice, when almost every PH in Africa would encourage his or her clients to use the 375 on all of the tiny 10 despite them all being much smaller than a good Eastern whitetail buck. If it is good for a Steenbok or a Reedbok, why is it not good for a whitetail or mule deer?

For a Steenbok or a Reedbok solids are recommended.
Trivia - in Canada there is no game that is allowed by law to be hunted using solids.
Same in Alabama, the law states “center fire mushrooming ammunition only” for deer. However buckshot is legal.
I’ve used my .375 Ruger on quite a few whitetail, works well.

Same in Colorado for big game. And .24 caliber and up.

Okay. I would think about shooting something else! What a mess.
I shoot 300gr DGX out of my .375 Ruger for everything except my one and only elephant and a community reedbuck both solids and I’ve never had that kind of damage on anything with it. I have had that kind of damage using 7mm Rem Mag and .270 Win. on whitetail and a pronghorn.

All depends on bullet placement wasn’t one piece of meat wasted on this feller, taxidermist wasn’t as impressed when he euro mounted though.

I hit a spike buck like that with my .416. No wasted meat, nor eyeballs for that matter
That one actually took a .490 round ball from my hawkins, just illustrated the point I was making, shot placement is paramount in meat retention.

I’ve used 458 win on varmints so I may be the wrong person to ask.
I like your style. After, I shot my deer with the 375 a couple seasons ago, I told my African PH and my buddies that I was going to take it squirrel hunting.

I plan to use my .458 on predator called black bears this fall so I probably fall in the same category you do.

Sir, I will gladly take that 16 gauge off your hands. I was waiting for your Winchesters but I'm a sucker for a 16 ga.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?
