35 whelen

Guy G., That is one fine looking rifle!
Every time I get the hots for a .35 Whelen, I shoot my .358 Winchester and decide it is the only .35 I need. I'll just have to stalk 50-75 yards closer.:)

Beautiful gun and great shooting. Im excited to get my 35W put together. Im going with a re-bored 1903 on a Bishop stock I reshaped and oiled.

Might still do 358 too, I live having at least 2 guns for every caliber I load, just in case I buy a bunch of bullets 1 gun doesn't live... maybe the other will!

On deck to load ive got
180 GSC
220 GSC
220 Speer
225 North Fork
225 Partitions

A beauty for sure in a great caliber. I have owned several and just recently had an '03 Springfield re-bored to the Whelen. Hope to get it to the range soon but a sore shoulder:cry: has kept me off the kickers for the moment. But I must ask, how long was the drop tube you used to get that much powder :eek:into the case and still have room for a projectile?:sneaky: I just put that much of R15 in an unsized fired case and it filled it to the rim! Would be rather heavily compressed!!;)

Right you are sestoppelman, I have written on that target incorrectly years ago. It should read 57 not 67 as it would be impossible to seat a projectile. I will ask the mods to take it down as I don't know how to.

Beautiful rifle! Now it needs some "character" added to it!
I have two 35 Whelen's. A Rem 700 Classic and a Ruger MK1 RS I just picked up. Prefer the Mauser action myself.
So any of my Canadian friends whom would like a Rem 700 I has one for sale!

I take it you are in OZ Guy. What part.
Have you tried the Speer load for the 250grain Speer hotcore, that gets a wiggle on.
My Whelen is nowhere as nice as yours but it has become my go to rifle for most things.
Congrats on a beautiful rifle in a great caliber.

My interest started with the 358 winchester as a teenager. After doing some reading of the 35 whelens past performance and a good reputation as a solid hitter since on game like grizzly, I really started to like it. It is hard for not to like the 35 whelen after seeing how good it performs in the field.
@Guy G
Have you tried any Woodleigh projectiles yet. The 225gr PPSP performance on a large zebra stallion left nothing to be desired.

What loads have you tried in your Whelen.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
