35 Whelen with 250 gr Norma Oryx

Very interesting thread, I am seriously considering a 35whelen for next year in Namibia , my hunting partner thinks I am crazy, but research is looking good on a 35 for my use ( PG up to eland) but longer shots 250-300 yards
wondering if a single shot rifle will be a handicap?
any hints on best hand load for the longer range or even factory if the componets aren’t available
@S-3 Ranch
I used the 35 Whelen very successfully in Namibia on pg.
All 1 shot kills.
For long range the 225gn accubond using 60.5gn of Varget will give you 2,800fps. The Woodleigh 225gn PPSP can be loaded up to 2,900fps with CFE223.
For Eland I would use the 275gn Woodleigh PPSP, the 280gn AFRAME or the 310gn Woodleigh RNSP. The first 2 can be loaded to almost 2,600fps and the 310 loaded to 2,455fps.

Thanks, I will start shopping

.35 Whelen and 250gr Oryx I ended up with 65.7gr of 2000-MR and get 2630fps. This load is amazingly accurate in my rifle.
@Deepfork
Even at 2,630fps a 250 grainer is going to put a lot of hurt on an animal and is 200 odd fps better than the Remington factory 250 at 2,450fps.

I love 250gr Oryx bullets. I don’t have a Whelen but from my 358 Norma it’s the only bullet that I have seen the blood and tissue spray on the far side of an animal through the scope. The black bear spun into the ground in a few feet of where it was hit. I use the 180gr 30 caliber Oryx in my 308 Norma for deer, deadly.
