Hi Jwp475Here a re my loads and pressure test data for those loadsView attachment 482194
I’ve made brass out of 270 win and 280 Remington. I have also processed nickel 30-06 and 270 Win. with no signs of nickel fletching it’s nice when you’re hunting, no tarnishing or stains, I was reluctant “,I heard a blog saying you could not do that but that’s not true. It’s nice to have nickel brass happy hunting Tony.
Go with the most recent, newest, reloading manual, you can find because it has better new or more advanced powders, 2021 & up Richard Lee’s 51st addition is good, and Speer loads then Barnes or Nosler, they treat the 35 Whelen like an old musket with pressures under 50k and modern bolt actions can handle 64,000 psi be careful, happy hunting Cheers TonyThanks @gbflyer
To be clear, I am not asking anyone to list their personal load data, especiallyif they do not feel comfortabledoing so. I am looking for helpful leads on where to find published data that uses my components. Just as you referenced woodleigh as a possible resource I can use, especially if I get ahold of some of their components.
For example, if the Hornady 11th edition of handloading lists an option for 225 gr bullet with CFE 223 powder, I am asking for the name of the manual, book, or a link to website. I will happily purchase resources, but would rather know they contain useful information than buying blind in hopes it has something useful or different than what I have.
Thanks again!
Hi Jwp475
I was just looking at your loading tables and it occurred to me that your using CFE 223 the same powder as my mate Bob uses in his 35 Whelan. 2 grs more infact with the same bullet, yet Bob is getting over 200 fps more. I know Bobs has a 25” barrel which is 3” longer than yours but that doesn’t equate to over 200 fps.
I have killed several whitetails and pronghorn with the 250 hotcor at ~2,450 (cfe223). I like that bullet and it has worked well for others on larger species. I now use a Lyman 358009 clone at 2,350. It works well too.I have a savage I rebarreled in 35 whelen. Have some really good loads with h4895 and 200ttsx. Started messing with 250 partition and 250 hot cor. Was getting 2450-2500 with 4895. Recently tried cfe 223. Getting 2675 with partition and 2575 with hot cor. Partition load is awesome. Used speer hot cor load data and worked up with the partition. No pressure signs at that velocity

@Tiger Tony 35 WhelenI’ve been loading old stock, Barnes originals W748 w 56 grs , heavy jacketed, 300 grain SP projectiles @ 2300fps Apx. I noticed over penetration on my backstop which included 4 x 4‘s and sandbags went through all of that and threw three soft pine trees, approximately 12 inches thick. Has anyone had any problems with over penetration on game ? I have CFE223 powder would like to know if anyone has loaded 300/310 grain projectiles like Woodledge?
@450 DakotaVarget works great for me with the 225 Accubond. Start at Noslers starting load and work up.

I use speers max load of 64gn of CFE223 with the 250gr speer and get 2,700fps out of my 25 inch barreled Whelen.
This load is safe in my rifle but work up to it.
The speer load of 70gn of CFE223 with the 225gn game king gives me 2,900 as well
The above cautin applies.
Bob
Crazy awesome you rock that is cool never thought of that belt fed 35 Ott six nice cheers Tony@tankgijohn72

For the ultimate in big mobs of hogs eradication get this converted to 35 Whelen MG 42. Now that would be fun. Very expensive to rum at 1,100 rounds a minute but the ultimate in fun
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

Same experience with Varget and 225 Accubonds, I use the Accubonds at +1 grains Nosler's start loads, accuracy in my Ruger #1 .35 Whelen, 24" barrel and custom 1912 Steyr Mauser 98 with 23" barrel, just works.Varget works great for me with the 225 Accubond. I also use Varget with 250 grain Hornady RN (now discontinued) at 1 grain under Max in The Lee Reloading manual. H 4895 also works well here.
I don't Hot-Rod the loads; I go for easy accuracy.
As ALWAYS, start with the minimum load from established reloading manuals, and carefully work up.
Varget, H4895, and Reloder-15 work well in this range to find accuracy.
CFE223 works very well but gives up a little velocity to Power Pro Varmint with the 200sIs anyone using CFE-223 or TAC with 200-grain TTSXs?
thanks,
Okie John
