338wm vs 375HH for use on large PG

@JG26Irish_2
That's the problem with to many rifles.
338 with 225 = 2,925 fps
375 with 250 = 2,690 fps

35 Whelen
225 = 2,900fps
250 =2,700 fps
One rifle, two solutions simple
Sighted 3" high at 100 = backline hold at 400 on bigger animals.
Simples
I like simple because I'm simple and very easy confused.

We left out the 375 with the 235g TSX at 3030fps. But then I like lots of options. There's the squirrel rifle, then the prairie dog rifle, then the ground hog rifle, and the coyote rifle. After that we get into the deer rifle and the long range precision deer rifle for open country, and the Elk rifle, the moose rifle, the bear rifle and the African PG rifle. Plus the DG rifle and the very big and very bad DG rifle. Then we start in on the target rifles, self defense, proactive kinetic defensive like rifle, etc, etc. Love the Whelen but I stopped reloading for hunting rifles and would really need to handload for that little fatty. Good round. Thx.

22 Hornet for small game
Fast 25 for bigger game
35 Whelen for bigger still game
22lr for fun and bunnies
12 bore shotgun just because.
Simple.

Between the .338 Win Mag vs .375 H&H, take the .338. Use a 210 grain Barnes TTSX to get the velocity up. Pay attention to your guide on shot placement. A wounded nilgai is likely be lost. Dropping them where they stand is important. A .300 Win Mag with the Barnes TTSX 165 grain at 3,100 fps is quite effective.

Nilgai hide is thick and very elastic.

I think 400 yard shots on a tough animal could be a good enough excuse to get a 300 PRC.

To be truthful, the possibility of a 400 yard shot on an elk (for a particular hunt I was told to be prepared for 300-400) was exactly why I bought a 300 PRC..

It’s a wonderful 409 yard cartridge IMO

Between the 2, I would use the 375 H&H.

I had a 338 Win Mag and let it go. It was much more uncomfortable to shoot than the 375.

Agree with shootbrownelk.....I don't need a 338.

Of course, I didn't need my 460 either, but a good price and admiration for the caliber got it sold to me.

I guess that you are choosing either/or. I would tell you to buy one of both and make some noise. They are both outstanding calibers in their own and loved by many.

If it is just a matter of shooting PG, I would prefer for many reasons the cartridge 338 Win Mag. If you shoot PG during a DG hunt, things look a little bit different, but in such cases the PG is often shot with the rifle used for the DG hunt, including among others the cartridge 375 H&H Magnum. However, if I had the choice between the cartridges 338 Win Mag and 375 H&H Magnum for only PG hunt, I would choose the cartridge 338 Win Mag, but for ballistic reasons not with a too heavy bullet of this caliber class.

Since you mentioned the cartridge 460 Weatherby Magnum, I have also shot few PG with that and even much smaller ones like a bustard for example. The largest game species you want to shoot determines the cartridge choice.

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
