300 WSM LA bullet ideas for Africa

I hope I don’t come across as a jerk, but are you guys saying a 180gr bullet is going to have a velocity and energy advantage past 200 yards over a slower 200gr bullet? Well, that’s simply not the truth. The much higher BC’s of the 200’s easily outrun the 180’s out past 200 yards. Here’s two factory loads for a 300wsm. First is the 200gr Terminal Ascent, and the 2nd is a 180gr TSX. You can see, it takes very little time for the slower 200gr Terminal Ascent to outrun the TSX.

What you experienced with your Nalgai is what you can expect from your PG animals. We took 11 animals with a 300WM using 180gr Peregrine bullets @ 3006fps. Of the 11 only 2 were DRT, son shot a Springbok in the shoulder it still ran 100+ yards. The trail was not hard to find. Mono that hold together do not seem to have the same effect as cup-and-core. I'm going to try some hammers this year. Want to see the results with deer/hogs.

A few years back, I used Woodleigh 200 grain PPs out of my Ruger No 1 ( custom chamber, long-throated out by 200+ thousanths of an inch. 2800fps++. longes shot was a gemsbok @ 300. I stuffed up the shot, (pulled it too low.) Listed max load of H4350 (AR2209) and STILL UNDER any indicated pressure signs!

@Jetjockey I appreciate your constructive criticism, that’s exactly why I started this thread. I live by the numbers, they don’t lie & can be trusted…unlike emotional human nature. Keep it coming.

BTW the Nilgai in question did in fact drop at the 50 yard frontal boiler shot, got up again barely & 2nd shot spined him permanently to the ground…then a few more shots to get it to stop moaning and die. It was awful, I’ll never forget it. I have a buddy who dropped & killed his with one shot & a 270 WSM, not sure what bullet he used but do know he reloaded his own hot loads. My frontal shot location, I suspect was probably not the best, but the only chance I had. The 270 WSM buddy neck shot his, big difference.
(Off subject, but the experience is why I have decided to change bullet & weight, regardless of what happened. I don’t blame the 165 TSX)

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
