...and used the same powder charge (RL22) as the Swift Scirocco.

Had great luck with these in other calibers, have not used the 300 on game.

These are Copper and fall under Factor #3 of the 8 Factors of Solid Terminal Penetration.

#3 Construction & Material
Construction of a solid is a major part of its ability to penetrate. To deny this is foolish to say the least. Some of our solids out there, lead core, are very very weak in construction and absolutely do not have the ability to bust through heavy bone and reach their intended targets. I have seen and have in hand failures of these bullets from the field..... A shame as well, as some of these bullets are promoted as Dangerous Game Solids, and some of them flatten out like pancakes when hitting heavy dense material. Some FMJ Have steel inserts, while this solves a problem in one area, it creates problems in other areas.... Brass is harder than Copper... No surprise there, but I have busted elephant heads with both copper and brass, and never had one distort, but, these solids were of a very STRONG NOSE PROFILE as well........ So you see, combinations of different factors work together to strengthen or weaken other factors..... A good strong Nose Profile, can overcome some material deficiencies and in the case of copper solids this is extremely important.


Any Solid, Brass or Copper, can and will distort even in soft tissue at higher velocity Impacts. These 308 Copper Solids are fantastic, but at high velocity the copper will flow. This effects straight line deep penetration. The lower the velocity, in some cases, penetration is enhances both depth and stability.

One other tidbit of information, most of the bullets compacted, became shorter after terminals. Of some consequence for some applications, but interesting to note, and would not be much of a factor in the proposed use in this thread, tiny antelopes and other even larger animals if needed.....

For use on antelope and in particular the Tiny ones, this deformation will mean nothing and is a moot point, and they will perform outstandingly. Even on larger antelope+ I don't see any major issues in the field. Larger caliber Copper Solids have a bit more diameter and some less prone to deformation, but also it would be rare to run a big bore copper solid above 2600 fps........

These will accomplish the mission you are asking of them.

I think I'll have John at Safari Arms load a box of these for me. It is always good to have a couple solids handy as you never know what you'll encounter in Africa!

If you reload There is no reason you can’t simply load a normal cup and core bullet backward into a case and shoot that bullet as a full metal jacketed slug for the tiny ten. Bullets loaded rearward in the case fly just fine when fired. And, in case you’re wondering, they don’t flip around mid way to fly point first to the target. I don’t think I’d use em for dangerous game however. Cup and core are not heavily constructed enough to absolutely substitute in all cases for solids. Try em first at the range. It seems “backwards” but it actually works! Boat tailed cup and core bullets will even give you a slight but still blunt “point”.

There are many reasons to be in possession of properly designed Solids for every endeavor in the field, and there are NO good reasons for not having them.
