.30-06, 180gr Bullets, favorite powder?

Another cool thing about the 30-06 is the ability to make inexpensive and lower recoil practice loads with 150 grain bullets.

I got lucky with my Tikka. A load using 150 Hornady FMJ-BTs prints to almost exactly the same POA/POI as my 180 gr A-Frames. Same (H) 4350, at 56.0 grains, and COL per the Hornady manual. Rem brass, 2,789 fps.

I'm curious if the Hornady 150 FMJ would be a good load for the Tiny Ten.(?)

Hi Phil!!!
Greetings to you!
I might you should use the 308 win...
You´re wife will be gratefull!!! hahaha!!!
Do you develop any load with 165 gn bullets? I remember a post time ago....
Whath happened ?

Started her on 308 Win actually. She’s graduated up the ladder a bit. Hoping to get her to 375HH eventually.

Whow!!! .375 it´s a BIG DEAL....
Step by step,. my friend, "paso a paso"... Starting with lighter pills, slower powders, soft charges, etc etc you should reach the goal

However, the 308 it´s a great shot at all!...
I´m very pleased and comfortable with my "shorty"...
I I should take the time to open a post about my development, step by step, with lead cast bullets and duplex charging on the 308
I´m very happy with it

Whath means "tiny Ten"?
Sorry... I live in Argentina, there are a lot of nicknames I don´t know and it´s difficult to understand a lot.... a LOT of things hahaha

I'm no expert, but there is good explanation and pics of the tiny ten in the below thread.

With 180 grains I run Federal 210 primers in Winchester brass and 57.5 grains of H-4350

I use 57.5 grains H-4350 behind 180's and 59 grains behind 165/168

I thought we just "did" this. My favorite load for an '06 is a 180 Gr. Hornady Round Nose bullet pushed by 54.7 Gn. of Win. 760. This load will shoot a 10 shot (cold barrel) group well under an inch out of my old Remington 742.

Aaaaah!!! Ok ok thanks to you!
There are the opposite to the "big five" hahaha

I've used all the listed powders of others with good results in three different rifles. My old Springfield 30-06 has a somewhat "slow" barrel with a slight wear in the rifling. It does well with IMR4350 and H4350. A load of Western Ramshot Hunter, 58gns, gives an average of 2,704 fps, very comparable to the 4350's. Load data suggests Hunter with 60gns is maximum.

Well it's NASCAR's championship weekend here in Phoenix. I'm a big fan and attend all of the races.

So I took the day off today for a long weekend, but started it with a day at the range with the new to me .30-06. My 165gr NF load that I used with our other .30-06 was okay, could hunt with it. But not as accurate as with the older rifle.

But I also loaded up a bunch of 180gr NF softs and IMR4350. Found a nice group at 54gr and +/- 0.5gr from there was okay too. Some more tweaking to do, but I think we'll have a NF load in short order with the IMR4350. May try to load them also with H4831 for giggles.

Now if I could just lay my hands on some 180gr A-Frames......
Have you tried Swifts Scirocco 2's? Real killers and accurate.

I have tried the Scirocco 2's but have not have success with their accuracy. Development continues and I'll experiment more with their seating depth. I had good accuracy with the original Scirocco, .270 130gn and it performed well on deer.

Vihtavuori N-160 for 165gr and heavier, and Vihtavuori N-140 for 155gr and lighter. My favourite loads are 54.5gr VV-N160 for molycoated Norma Oryx 200gr (Short distance) and 60gr VV-N160 165gr Nosler Accubond (long distance)

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
