Found a Weatherby Mark V at a local gun shop with a good bit of ammo. Is this round that much different than a standard 270 win? Looking for honest opnions on the round.

TIA!

Like anything Weatherby it'll give you a couple hundred more fps than the standard 270 Win. With the extra velocity it'll shoot a little flatter giving you a little extra range.

I have it in a Ruger #1 and that combination is pretty lethal. I'm debating on taking it or my 25-06 on a Wyoming pronghorn hunt this fall.

My 270wby shoots 129gr Barnes LRX at 3400fps (chrono’d) and is an absolute killer.
I was shooting 150gr accubonds at 3150fps but my penetration tests showed the lighter Barnes out-penetrated them.
270WBY is a great round.

The 270WBY is an unbelievably great cartridge! For out west long range shots its to this day one of the best and not really surpassed by any of the new fancy rounds!!!

Here is a thread that I had about it and the 264WinMag

And to answer your question the 270Win is a awesome cartridge but the the 270WBY just takes it to a new level…

IMO, here's a nice overview of the cartridge:

A lot of Weatherby (and push feed and Hornady) hate on this sight, but I can tell you with absolute certainty that I have killed more whitetail deer with a .270 Weatherby Magnum and 150 grain Hornady Interlocks than most people will ever see. Regarding the ammo that comes with your gun, I will grossly overpay you if it’s Weatherby factory-loaded 150 grain Interlocks as those were discontinued some years ago and are nearly impossible to score on the secondary market.

The difference between the .270 Weatherby and the .270 Winchester is like the difference between the lightning and the lightning bug.
More like 200fps, but it is a meaningful advantage pushing 150's for elk or PG..

The 269 weatherby imo is the best round he ever created. Standard action size, extreme speed and flat shooting, for anything up to deer, elk, and any medium size plains game in Africa it’s perfect. Once you get to something 800-1000lbs I’d probably go a little bigger with a heavier bullet.

Get a suppressor- will kick like a sharp mule but once suppressed, it's a dream!

I kind of like the .257 myself. Then again, I seem to be the only fan of the .378 and .416 on the planet.

You are going to like this cartridge; along with the 257 Weatherby, it is one of my favorites.

Used to have a 270 Wby in of all things a factory Browning BAR. It was very soft shooting in that rifle, and usually grouped around 1.5 inches at 100yds with the factory ammo. These rifles did not seem to have the excessively long throat of the Weatherby factory rifles, and could produce some great accuracy for a semi-auto.

The Barnes X and the Weatherby rifles are a match made in Heaven, if only by accident. All of the MKV rifles in Wby calibers have very long throats, or what is often called a "freebore" section at the end of the chamber as it leads into the rifling. The monolithic all copper bullets like the Barnes X, tend to shoot more accurately with a bit of a jump.

One word of caution concerning any magnum caliber, like the 270 Wby, is they can be hard on barrels. Barrel life can be half what a standard 270 Win will give if the barrel is allowed to heat up with long shot strings. Most 270 Win rifles will give good accuracy for 3,000 to 5,000 rounds. The 270 Weatherby may give good accuracy for 2,000 to 3,000 rounds at most. This is the trade-off for the extra velocity. For a hunting rifle, it may not be a huge concern, but certainly something to be aware of.

Though not a BEE , my friends Margie shoots a 270wsm with 140gr TSX, last year she shot her buck 1/4ing away, and it went in last rib and all the way up the neck , lodged under the skull, im sure the BEE will add a little bit more to that, there pretty hot
If you don’t mind the 26 inch barrel

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
