Here is the price for a few upgrades on a new Heym 89b in 577 I ordered last year. If this helps anyone.
Ouch!!
Perfect gun but costs more than my car....
Seems I will drive this car for an extra year or two!

Yes it was a big chunk of change. But I figure in 20-30 years this should be worth a lot more than a car. Call it my mid life crisis or what not but. At 45 I sold my porche and decided to get the double of my dreams. I just hope I can put it to use over the next few decades to make it worth it. Then sell it once I retire.

Agreed
The best time to buy a double was yesterday, the second....................
If only 10 years ago.
Should have, would have, could have..‍♂️

I know a fellow who ordered a new Merkel double in 500 Nitro,he has taken it to Africa and is delighted with the rifle.

I am am absolutely delighted with the Merkel I bought here from @Rare Breed. It's a 470 with upgrades that has been tuned by JJ Perodeau.

I would not hesitate to buy a new Merkel in 500 if I wanted a new double.

That's a good read. I think I've found my Heym 500NE, just working out the payment details.

Oh wow!!
I am in love...
Thats gun porn!!
VC also had inventory in 2021. This was spec'd but 20% off for a display, that was generous for a brand new 500 eloge
$27,500

VC's distributer "here" had a couple 500's in 2023. It sold, but I'd never seen anything like it. 500 eloge "French Shell Walnut"
$28,500.

I have recently decided to add a DR to the collection for my next purchase and have begun acquiring 500NE ammo for my preferred caliber choice.

One thing I have been having trouble with is determining what these double rifles are actually going for new from the manufacturers, as they don't all seem to readily advertise prices on their respective websites.

I'm hoping to use this post to collect current 2024 prices on a variety of doubles just to get an idea of how they compare to each other. On a side note, does the caliber choice tend to influence the overall price? i.e. will the company charge more for a 500NE model vs a 450/400NE or is it more-so the fit and finish "grades" that dictate that?

For simplicity sake let's include all pricing in USD. Looking for 2024 MSRP's for doubles from the following.

1. Merkel
2. Krieghoff
3. Heym
4. Chapuis
5. Verrney-Carron

And just for the fun of It I'd be interested to know the pricing on the bespoke makes that operate in a different stratosphere from the rest of us mortals.

6. Holland and Holland
7. John Rigby & Co.
8. Westley Richards
9. James Purdey & Sons
Northern Shooter, you are about to go down a wonderful rabbit hole. Not only your quest for your DR but on this forum! I own a few and have owned a few but nowhere near the experience of many on this AH site. However, my sage advice is to call three people back in the US. George Caswell of Champlin Arms (Enid, OK). JJ Perodeau also in OK. And MG Arms in Spring, TX (speak only to the owner Keri). Tell them your wants and your budget and they will guide you honestly. They also know the vintage market very well. For my part, I only wanted and could only afford modern makes. I figure a vintage DR is like owning a vintage car; expensive to fix and not something I wanted to sweat over when traveling or taking into the field. I went with a Merkel in 500 NE that I won at an auction and a Chapuis 375 HH I bought on Egun here in Germany. I also bought a Heym 9.3 on either GB or GI years ago that someone had won at an SCI auction but realized he really didn't want the gun. For modern makes the only ones I have seen that are ready to be bought brand new and in the box are both Krieghoff and Chapuis. Heym is a special order only for new and about a 2+ year wait (and much higher price point). Merkel from what I can see, does not offer large caliber DR currently. New Sabattis pop up now and again but you'll get an earful about them. And I am not sure about VC since their head salesman/gunsmith moved to Rigby. Keep us posted on your quest and good luck!

Phillip I was reviewing some of the auctions online and saw your Nubian Ibex hunt coming up this weekend. It also showed you have Addax and Axis deer. Is there a website I can go to and see the lodge, cost of animals and what is available? Thanks Mark

I really like that knife you're selling. It looks so similar to my original 1306 that has been around a long time. I can't spend that much but if you get to a point where you'd entertain offers let me know. Thx, James
