I leave tomorrow for the 2023 SHOT Show in Las Vegas. I will also be attending Industry Day at the Range.

If there is anything that people would like me to check out, try, or get information on, please leave a note here and I'll do my best.

This is my 8th SHOT Show with the last 7 being as media thanks to my blog. I will be attending the Governors' Forum on Wednesday which is followed by a NSSF presentation on their hunting and conservation priorities in the new Congress.

If you pass by the Winchester group it would be interesting if they will bring out some Model 70 Supergrade with walnut in the traditional calibers, .30-06, 270 etc.

How about asking for the return of the Winchester Model 70 CRF Safari Rifles, i.e. .375, .416, .458...

Please provide reports and photos if possible of any affordable brand rifles with CRF and safari magnum chamberings.

Hello jpr9954. I was just wondering what your blog is? And thanks for offering to check things out for those of us who aren’t going to the shot show. I’ve never been to that show. Only DSC and SCI. It sounds like you are heavily involved in conservation. I’m trying to get my book known to as many organizations or people involved in conservation as possible. I’m a first time self-published self funded author and need all the help I can get. The book has won four awards including The Wildlife Society’s 2022 Conservation Education Award and the 2023 Professional Outdoor Media Association Pinnacle Award. It also has a 4.6 star rating on Amazon with nearly 190 reviews. Anyway, if you come across people and/or organizations that may be interested in knowing about the book, I’d love some of their contact information if it isn’t too much trouble. Yeah! I think Ruger picking up Marlin was a good thing, even if Ruger is controlled by the bean counters now.

My company will have a booth at the show. One near registration , and I think another inside the show. I’m not sure how marketing set it up this year.

And to add, from my knowledge of the firearm industry, I would guess the control round feed wood stock production rifles won’t be around in the future. It is such a tiny market and is getting smaller and smaller every year.

And to add, from my knowledge of the firearm industry, I would guess the control round feed wood stock production rifles won’t be around in the future. It is such a tiny market and is getting smaller and smaller every year.

It's very depressing. Especially for those of us who don't have the scratch for custom CRF rifles in African calibers. I was in the local Sportsmans Warehouse yesterday and there was not a single piece of timber on the gun racks and all the ammo was 9mm, 45, 223, 308, and 6.5 something or other. There was one box of 30-06.

I mean let’s face it- there is not much in North America other than grizzly you can’t kill with a 300 win mag and down. (300 win can kill a grizzly , I would go bigger) The demand for large dangerous game rifles isn’t enough for a company to dedicate production time for.

You are correct for sure, the trend in plastic and fast, long range rounds. I was just born too late haha! I'm an old soul for classic and classy firearms.

Covid did not help either. With the massive influx of first time hunters pushing west for the hope of landing a bull elk came the demand for affordable accurate light weight rifles. Even though a wood stock Browning A bolt in 30-06 will do the job, it doesn’t sell like a Bergara 300 prc or a Christensen arms in 28 nosler.

I would say the invent of the 6.5 creed didn’t help either. It jumpstarted a cartridge re design frenzy and the rifle industry followed.
