2022 optics for .375 H&H

Don't overlook this, its a hell of a deal

I have this on my savage 375hh.

The abolt is light so this adds 6 ounces over leupold. Great eye relief. 2.5x on the low-end (which half the members are going to say is too much and the half will say it is perfectly fine).

OK - I guess I missed this issue - why do many of you dislike the CDS dials on Leupolds?
To me it is just something to break and not suited to all applications. I have two of them, but I’m not going to put one on every rifle. There is specific hunting I think they are perfect for and there is hunting where the rifle may get abused that I’d prefer a scope without exposed moving parts (including the caps on vx-6s). Most hunting situations I find the CDS unnecessarily as well because I will just point and shoot, I won’t be ranging animal or making an adjustment. I don’t see why Leupold had to move almost their entire line this direction instead of continuing to offer traditional “tough” scopes built for hunting (with any ammo).

Agree. At least they have positive clicks instead of the mushy pieces of crap the previous line had

I know it was a different manufacturer, and an older scope, but.... I have been on a paid guided hunt with only one gun and had the internal workings of a scope break, causing me to miss multiple animals under 150 yards. The guide must have thought bad case of buck fever.
However; I felt embarrassed, sick, confused, etc. I got an animal, but we had to get bow range close. I didn't pick up ANY rifle for over a year after that hunt. Eventually I shot the gun in question again then changed the scope. This is how I found out my zero changed on every shot.

Since this hunt.... I try to keep everything as simple as possible. Less gadgets and technology and more increasing my personal abilities. That and I no longer go on any hunt with only one rifle. :)

For those with the red dot and illuminated reticles. What type of battery life / battery replacement time frame, do they recommend?

This is what I put on my 375.

I was thinking the exact same thing.?
The CDS is a solution that the masses didn't ask for or want. 99% of hunters will never need to adjust a reticle up to shoot game with. If the drop is the drop is bigger than the reticle on top of the animals back, its too far to shoot. Besides that, most people couldn't hit an animal at 400 yards anyway.

Its a pain in the butt to adjust down, its just extra pieces to lose at the range, and the set screws could easily vibrate out on long gravel / dirt roads.

If leupold wants to make a couple scopes with 10 or 12x, fine. But its nothing but a liability for my 2.5-8x36

Love the CDS on most all of my rifles. I live and hunt here in Wyoming where shots can easily be out to 500 yards, or more.
I think the masses definitely want it here as most guys have them.
For example, on my 7mm RUM, I have it zeroed at 300 yards. My CDS dial makes it very simple to range beyond 300, turn the dial to the range and hold where I want to hit.
I don't shoot game out past 500, or at least have not had to as I prefer getting closer. But, it is nice to know I confidently can if needed rather than taking an unethical shot using Kentucky windage.

I with great respect disagree with your OPINION " the masses didn't ask for or want. 99% of hunters will never need to adjust a reticle up to shoot game with"
i have several Leupold cds scopes which I use quite often the last six years or so. Use at ranges from 30 yd to 400 yd dead on no guesswork. Oh and by the way never lost anything at the range except for one turret cap from an old Simmons scopes LOL
I need to stop here I believe IM getting off topic sorry OP

This is what I put on my 375.
How do you like this scope? This thread got me thinking what scopes I could possibly move to if Leupold goes all CDS.

Leupold CDS scopes are mostly "CDS ready", meaning they are CDS capable if you want to put a dial on them but you certainly don't have to.

I own two. I see them as a benefit on some rifles and a liability on others. The two I own it’s because I wanted firedot not necessarily CDS. If I could put a cap over the dial I’d have no complaints, but whether I order a custom dial or not it’s still exposed.

I have a Leupold VX3 1.5-5x scope on my 500 Jeffery. I like the scope a lot. $500 MSRP. Rugged, good clarity, 4.5" eye relief.

For those looking for a Leupold with non CDS but still have the FireDot look at the
Patrol VX6 1-6 Duplex FireDot. I have one on my CZ 458 Lott and it is working great. Will have in the field on Buffalo in 2 weeks.

I would look for a used Swarovski, Ziess or Schmidt and Bender 1-4x24 30mm tube. If you look you should find for $800-1,200ish.

All three are awesome glass and will work another lifetime. Seems like some people are upgrading from these scopes to illuminated 1-6 or even 1-8 models and they are around if you look.
Something I didn't really think of... but will definitely do.

I would like to hear CDS issues myself!

Meopita 1.7X10 is on my 375H&H, it does cost a little more than a VX6. That said glass is better, gathers more light, works well in close or out far.

Just food for thought. As far as batteries go, I aways put in new ones before I fly and carry extras with my.

I change it just at the last range session before the hunt and take spares.

Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 or 1-6.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
