2020 Ruger African?

Remember those IQ test questions that give you a list of items and ask you to name the next item? The idea is to correlate the items to figure out what the next logical thing would be. Let's try it:

6.5x55
275 Rigby
9.3x62
______?

And the answer is: 280AI

Wait...
What?
Huh?
I don't get it........

I have the other three but I won't be buying this one.

Wyatt and Bonk, I totally agree. Any of the above would have been much better choices. Hell, .30-06 would be a great choice or even .270 (though that is pushing it and it would have to be stamped .270 WCF). Or .220 Swift, Horn of the Hunter and all..... but .280 AI

Did someone at Hornady piss them off so they decided to cuddle up with Nosler?

It would drive me crazy if I don’t have it to fill in the spot, Bonk. I’m strange like that. Probably won’t even shoot the stupid thing.

7x64, 8x57, 8x68 or 9.3x64 - all would have worked. While I wouldn’t mind a 280AI, it’s just not a classic Africa cartridge...

Or a .376 Steyr. Why? B/c Jeff Cooper said so. (Anybody remember those ads?)

20 years from now an original stock condition 2020 RSM in 280AI will be one of the most sought after RSM's.
...because it's not popular now and this will mean several of them will be modified from their original chambering.

and this chambering might be the best damn rifle in the series in the real world.
(if it shoots)

@BeeMaa , Sorry to disappoint you Lipsey Rugers are not RSMs. Nice guns but big difference as compared to a RSM.

I have been a big fan of the std .280 for many years, the AI version doesn't do a thing for me. What a waste of a good yearly opportunity. WTH were they thinking?

I know we probably couldn’t get enough people to do it, Shane we can’t do a AH group buy and have them make a special run of something.

actually the std 280 rem is an African cartridge in its own right.
such people as fred huntington, founder of rcbs, and other well known people routinely took the 280 as a matter of course.
you could bet money that if some of the old brits had access to it they would have jumped at it.
some of the old brit rounds, and the 280 ross had very similar ballistics, albeit bigger cases.
problem was in those days to get bullets that could handle 280 speeds.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock

+1 Great to deal with. I purchased custom rifle. No issues.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
