M98 sporter Geco marked action in 10.75x57 . This is an infrequently encountered chambering and shoots the same diameter bullet as the 404 Jeffery (.423"). Barrel is 25-1/4" long with one standing and one folding rear sight blade. Polished steel grip cap. Walnut stock with Schnabel forend. Forend is missing the sling swivel and the stock has been filled with Devcon epoxy. Brass is easily made by necking up 8x57 or 9x57. This is the perfect rifle to take on your next African safari!

intriguing rifle.. any idea where to get ammo (or properly head stamped brass so that it could be taken to Africa), and reloading data for it?

im wondering what velocities it gets with 350 or 400 gr bullets (or if the case is long enough to support a 400gr bullet at a reasonable speed)..

Ive seen a few Geco's in 9.3x57.. but never a 10.75x57... interesting..

Hmm, this would make a great "big brother" to my 9.3x57.
Intriguing

Very intriguing rifle.

Here is what John Taylor had as far as bullet weight and velocity. He mentioned it was widely used, but he was not a fan.

Pierre van der Walt makes no mention of it.

I assume that it is the same as the 10.75x57 Mannlicher Mauser in QuickLoad. Max pressure in it is 40,611 psi. I can get a 400 grain Swift Aframe going 1900 fps at safe pressures at 93.4% fill in QuickLoad. Don’t know about the real world, but it could certainly happen.
It also shows 2117 fps with a 350 WoodLeigh at safe pressure. that is a little under Taylor’s listing.
Just played a little with a few powders, then tried Bob’s favorite 35 Whelen powder.

Best of luck with Sale!

Its not the same round. Taylor is talking about the 10.75x68, a much larger more powerful round.

Interesting. I had never seen the x57 larger than 9.5. I’d be curious as to what the velocity is with a 350 grain .423 bullet….

2000fps or under. The round also suffers from a near non existent shoulder making headspace problematic.

Yep. COTW is where I got the velocity number.
I got some brass from those folks once, its very expensive but they do make brass for lots of rare rounds.
Neat. Weren't kidding about the nonexistent shoulder, either. But I kinda dig it. Looks mean and beefy.

The cartridge 10,75x57 has nothing in common with the cartridge 10,75x68, and is also not a precursor to the latter. The cases have very different dimensions.

It is a cartridge 8x57 that has been expanded to caliber 10,75mm. The origin of this cartridge is obscure. I don't know if there is any connection with Mauser or Mannlicher-Schoenauer, by the way two very different companies in different countries.

Ah! If I only live in EEUU......

Best wishes

I tried to find load data for this round and really limited. But, If you look at the case dimensions, it’s very close to the .444 Marlin. Based on that, it should really be no stretch to get 2100 with a 300-325 gr and 1900-2000 with a 350. Very interesting round in a classic rifle. I’m really struggling with this one. The only thing holding me back is the cost of getting set up for reloading. The cost of dies and components is nearly equal to the price of the rifle. I keep telling myself I don’t need another rifle in an obsolete/difficult to feed caliber. But it’s such a cool rifle…

I'm right there with you on that! Oddball cartridges get my attention!
Brass would be easy using 8x57, bullets, no huge problem, but those dies! Ouch, serious harm to the wallet....

Almost like a metric version of a 400 whelen, just .13 bigger bullet.
