That certainly may be true. I will not know that until next year. Someone told me that special permits were only required for those that hunted the animal before the restrictions were lifted. I guess I will find out next year.
We just took a Bontebok in July of this year. We did not need any special permits so far and it is at the Taxidermist in RSA right now. I di know the guy who owned the property took a sample of the animal and put it in a baggie and said he was required to submit it for DNA testing. That id the...
Here is some new updated information I received today. Last month we went to RSA and did not fill out this form, but it looks like it is manditory now.
SCI members going to South Africa have been asking the Hunter Information Service (HIS) for clarification on those new recently implemented...
Hello. That first picture with a bow really spiked my interest. We were in that area last month and my wife got a nice Vallie and Mtn reedbuck. It is amazing how beautiful it is there and how big! I think the guy said if you loose your dog you can still see him for 2 days.. Could you tell us a...
I sent him a request for info. Mainly proerty size, if it is hunted by both gun and bow hunters, photos of blinds and treestands etc, and pricing. Thank you for the lead.
Hi Ace,
We also try to keep up on who may be a great choice to Bowhunt with. There are numerous outstanding safari companies in South Africa, but I think most are great at rifle hunting, and some are good at both, but so very few are great at bowhunting. I am still a bowhunter and my wife...
Maybe this is something new but they were also not able to process certain animals so they had to ship the animals to another clearing house also. I have not got their bill yet.
Lots of opinions and most I would say I agree with, But I was looking for anyone that would know the actual law and what is required. Sounds like it is not mandatory with the exception if you are carrying cash in access of 10,000, is that correct? This is the first time in over 35 years I have...
I know the Traveler Declaration for South Africa was optional before and some people are telling me it still is. I have also been informed that it is now mandatory. Does anyone know what the actual situation is with this, and has anyone been asked upon arrival if this was done? I see this can be...
That is a great bow! I was going to get one but it is longer than my RS and does not fit in my case. I usually get a new bow every year, but decided to stick with the RS again and see what comes out for 2027. would love to hear how the pronghorn hunt goes, that is on our list for the near future.
He said they charge $300 a day now for storage. They only told me that after they had my trophys for 10 days. I have never been charged storage with any other shipments I had with them in the past.
Did you get the actual bill from the shipper and coppersmith or are those just estimates? The accurate freight bill can only be given once the crate is complete and Coppersmith gives the actual bill only after it is cleared. This bill would have been 2500 cheaper without the storage fees. A lot...
The 80-90 was simply a guess from the taxidermist in Africa when they were dipping the animals, I asked if we had them all mounted there, what the freight would be. I assume they were using with air as that is all I have used in the past.
That certainly is something to think about. We have always kept any buckskins of animals that we took if we were having shoulder mounts. We have piles of them and don't really do much with them. I do not feel it is worth it. As far as shipping directly to you, it depends on what you have. I...
Ok so the crate was finally released today and is being shipped to the taxidermist in CT. This consists of only skulls, hides and horns from our sept 2025 safari. So the charges so far pre taxidermy are 5500.00 for dipping and packing, 7600.00 for freight to the U.S., and now 4500.00 was the...
I didn't think it mattered if it was a pelican, a gun case or any other lockable case. Everything is required to have a TSA lock and everyone behind the Curtin has a key, so if they want in they will get in. Also most of the smart travelers don't use designer luggage and purposely make it look...
Other than the Elephant, we have a very similar Africa list for this year. We are also taking a side trip to the cape to try for some also. I am planning on elephant in 2028, so I am looking forward to hearing about your hunt.
Well that is not surprising. Lyme disease started in Lyme CT in 1975 and has spread from there. And for those who like a good deeper story, Just off the coast from Lyme CT is Plum Island That has the animal Disease center and it is said there was animal disease testing back in the 50's and 60's...
Ryno Smit, I have heard of him. At first when you said Ryno Smith I thought you were going with Dries as he has a PH named Ryno Smith. Thank you for posting the link to your last safari, that was an enjoyable read and I love to see Daughters shooting their bows! I hope you both have a great time!
I am sure you will both have a fantastic time! I hope she gets a chance at a Bushbuck, I think that is the best trophy in South Africa. Who are you going with? we will be there in July also.
Thank you. This should be a great trip. we are really looking forward to the side trip down south with Reon. Of course he had to send me pics of a monster Vaal in the hills.
Is anyone headed over Bowhunting this year? Things are still looking a bit wet and green in South Africa these days, but the dry season should be starting soon. So when and where might you be hunting this year? We are headed over in July.
Honestly after going on only 1 auction hunt in all my years, I cannot believe people still buy them, but would agree trying to combine them is bad form.
We have found the Airline tickets have increased so much, that we prefer going over for an extended trip as opposed to going over twice in one year. It is a lot to ask an outfitter to take care of you everyday for 3 or 4 weeks without a break and we actually enjoy going to different places. It...
Just this morning there is an ad on a couple Africa Facebook pages I follow for an outfit in RSA that has a package for 1 Kudu, 1 Nyala and 1 Bushbuck for 5800 all inclusive. I do not know anything about the outfitter, but that certainly looks like a very fair price for those three.
Yup, I hunted with someone last year that gave us a price list when we were looking at a hunt. A different price list when we won their auction, and a different price list when we showed up due to "increases that year" . Then to top it off the PH would quote another higher price only when we...
I have been quoted as much as 18,000 for a Kudu in South Africa. The prices are certainly going up on all animals, but especially the ones that are large. For a Kudu that is 59" and over
