Remington 30 Express 30-06 - Curious to find out more info

I had the same recoil concern when I first saw that steel buttplate, but my PAST recoil pad made it pretty pleasant to shoot.

We are looking for a vehicle to buy in the states that we can use for marketing trips?

Increase your budget to $7-10k, and look for the following: - Car: 1997 or later Lexus LS400, or if you're lucky, a 2001-2006 LS430; or, 2. A relatively clean 2003-2009 Chevy Suburban Z71 or GMC Yukon XL for plenty of space to haul all your gear, a nice ride, and decent mileage...

Very nice! Of all the non- 30-06 calibers, the 257 Robert's would probably be my favorite in this rifle; for both practical and sentimental reasons.

Finally got it out to the range today for the first time. With factory Remington 150 grain Core-Lokts, it didn't do too bad at 100 yards with open sights and my aging eyes. The sight adjustment seemed decently on target, so I didn't mess with it; just wanted to check zero today. I'm...

Nothing more American than plinking with a 22LR, so here's my Remington 512 Sportmaster passed down through three generations. And for good measure, since we're not limiting ourselves to firearms, here is a wonderful knife that was so generously made for me by our great friend, @mdwest ...

There is some darkness in the stock near the buttplate (see my latest photo) and also inside the stock channel; as if one of the previous owners went overboard with the gun oil and it stained the wood. It probably would have eventually rotted it, but I think I caught it in time and it seems to...

That's actually a really good question, and I'm currently a little confused as to what "Special" model it might be. On one hand, it is currently wearing a Lyman peep sight (which originally made me think it was a 30SX); however on the other hand, there is a place on the right hand side of the...

I own a Browning Safari Grade in 308 Norma Mag, which is noticeably heavier than this 30 Express; so I can imagine the 358 Norma would indeed be quite the handful (not to mention that steel buttplate).

I'm with @mdwest , it looks more like an '03 Springfield action to me; but still a great rifle nonetheless. I could do without the integral muzzle brake, but looks like a well built rifle. You will rarely find me discouraging someone from buying a nice rifle, so I say go for it! ;-)

I have (and have had) a few Mark X's, including a Cavalier in 7x57 that is a great shooter. As @MontanaGrant said, they are often $6-700 rifles, but the 7x57 does command a premium; as well as the full-length "Stutzen"-style stock ("Mannlicher" is a brand, Stutzen is the style of stock). You may be right about the Redfield sight. There does seem to be an inlet in the wood below the Lyman sight that is currently unoccupied. No worries, though. Since it is already drilled and tapped, I'll may scope this rifle eventually; but the Lyman is good enough to start.

That's correct; it was my understanding too that they were imported 2006-2008. I've also read that they initially didn't sell very well; and by 2009/10, you could find them on clearance for sub-$500 USD (even for the big magnum calibers). Those days are obviously long gone. Here is my...
