I just returned from my first safari in Africa. It was a combination dangerous game/plains game hunt. So I was in a similar position to you about 2 years ago starting from scratch and planning a trip. My suggestion first would be to establish a budget for what you want to spend. From there you...
Good luck. I am sure it will be amazing. If you don’t have one, the 5 dollar headnet I brought was worth its weight in gold. Some liquid iv packets were nice also given the heat
I saw one elephant in Moyowosi but lots of elephant tracks. Also saw one in Natron. Natron was much easier hunting than Moyowosi with higher game density. Lots and lots of zebra, wildebeest and grants gazelle. Not much challenge on those 3. Not many thomson gazelle on this concession but if we...
It sure is. Awesome guy and amazing hunter. I don’t think there was a plant, animal, insect or bird that I asked about that he couldn’t identify and have info on.
I just got home from my first safari. Myself and 3 buddies spent 15 days in western Tanzania and Masailand. I have hunted my whole life but have always primarily been a bird hunter. Some people thought we were crazy for going to Tanzania and hunting dangerous game on our first safari. I am glad...
There is fairly significant pricing variation among the various outfitters. Based on what I know you should be able to take most of the plains game in Massailand (lesser kudu, gerenuk, fringe ear oryx, the gazelles, white face wildebeest etc) on a 7-10 day hunt (purchasing a premium license)...
I have not been to Tanzania but am leaving for there this weekend and did a lot of research before this trip. You can definitely hunt for anything in Tanzania on a shorter than 21 day safari, you just have to pay for the premium license. We are hunting for 16 days but have the premium license...
I don’t know about lightest but I just use the OEM Blaser saddle mount and rings. Rock solid, easy to remove and return to zero. I would have gone with the rail mount but the scopes I used don’t have a rail model
In the past year I bought 2 professional success stocks, 3 scope mounts and .223, .300 win mag and .375 H&H barrels from Cove Creek. Their pricing was significantly better than some of the other sources mentioned. I would definitely at least get a quote from them
DeltaOne mileage tickets are absurd. Often they are over 800,000 miles. Delta is a well run airline but probably the worst for flying international business class on points or upgrade certificates
2 months from today we will be landing at camp for our first safari. The trip has been on the books for 18 months but is getting real now and the excitement is building. Still lots of things to get done…. I appreciate all the help and info from people on this site. Myself and 3 buddies will be...
15 people on a Gulfstream for a 15+ hour flight is going to be less comfortable than business class on a commercial airline. You wouldn’t be able to convert seating to beds with that many people
Delta and Skyteam partner airlines will almost always be the best bet out of MSP in terms of convenience flying anywhere. Delta flies direct from ATL to Johannesburg and there are multiple flights a day between MSP and ATL. MSP is in my opinion one of the nicest airports in the US.
I don’t have any direct experience but have done lots of research. Going in September. Seems like you should look hard at Tanzania and Zambia. A number of operators there are almost 100% on leopards over a number of years. I don’t think there are a lot of places that can match the success rates...
I was thinking a 6.5 PRC one day. Mainly because I understand that caliber uses the same magnum bolt face as the .300 and .375. This particular setup was purpose built for my first trip to Africa next year for a mixed bag. The thing I love most about it is being able to get in trigger time with...
Any recommendations for an outfitter that could provide a stag hunt (other big game on the table as well) and waterfowl combo hunt in New Zealand? I understand a lot of the stag hunting is done on fenced estates. Would not be my first choice, but could get comfortable with it on a large property...
That seems in line with what I have found researching so far and that is exclusive of the cost of the tag, charter flight, etc. Sounds like the boat based hunts are quite a bit more expensive than other options.
