    I need help..

My experience with red hartebeest has been in South Africa, way up in the mountains where things open up and cover is scarce. They were cagey as could be! From that standpoint, the capability to take longer shots is nice, although with a good PH they will get you to the distance you need to...

    Flying Qatar Airlines

I flew Qatar in November of 2021 to South Africa. They canceled our return tickets with about six hour notice due to the Omnicron variant and we ended up having to book a oneway home on Ethiopian, which cost more than the RT did! Still waiting for a refund from Qatar. . . . Last I heard from...

SOUTH AFRICA: Cull Hunt & A Little Bit Of Ireland...

This hunt report is a little late in coming, but better late than never, as they say! At the end of October, my brother @Mac Baren and I took a little holiday from the rigors of everyday life and made our way to the Green Isle of Ireland, or as the Romans called it, Hibernia. Seeing as Dublin...

    Lion Hunts by women

I had the opportunity to hunt lioness a year and a half ago (sorry everyone, hunt report still pending!). My mom got to come along for the hunt also, and was there when I took the shot. She isn’t a hunter, but has definitely molded a family of hunters, reading the likes of Capstick to my...

    City Lodge Jo-Burg

There is great signage inside the airport for navigating to City Lodge - you shouldn’t have any trouble finding your way there. It’s not far, but you might as wellgrab a trolley for you luggage anyway as you can leave it at the elevator just before entering the hotel. They have nice breakfasts...

    Kidnapping Africa

I can completely relate to this! Steenboks would be a great choice. About a month ago I saw two Guinea fowl in the ditch about a quarter mile from my house. Didn’t expect to see those in Alaska! Must be escapees from a neighbour’s coop. I rolled my window down to listen to them and it took...

Has anyone brought reloading bullets or brass to SA in their Luggage?

Has anyone transited through Ireland with brass (umprimed of course) before? I haven’t been able to find anything online that states a restriction on brass so figured I’d ask here. Will have a couple nights there on our way over to SA, so hoping to bring some brass in a checked bag for one of...

    Hunting Recommendations for Ireland?

Thanks for the responses, everyone, and for all the information! This trip kind of came together last minute (just got tickets booked over the weekend actually!). We've visited Ireland before, and always wanted to take advantage of the hunting opportunities there, but never actually looked at...

    Hunting Recommendations for Ireland?

Hi everyone, Does anyone have recommendations for hunting in Ireland? My brother and I will be there for a week in November and would love to take advantage of any good hunting opportunities. We’d be particularly interested in trying fox hunting, but I understand it’s a good time for deer and...

    Women's Safari Pants

I would recommend trying Prois, which makes women’s hunting clothing. I’ve gotten a bunch of their gear and have been impressed with quality and fit. Not all of their pants are designed to be drug through the thorns in Africa, but they have a decent selection so you can pick what fits your...

    Qatar Airway Carry-On Bag Experiences

Good day everyone, I’m heading to SA next week on Qatar Airways and had a question about carry on baggage requirements. I was looking on the Qatar website and it looks like they restrict carry-ons for economy class to one 20x15x10 inch bag plus one small briefcase or handbag. The carry-on bag...

    Crispi Hunting Boots?

Personal preference for fit or have you had quality issues? I’ve had a pair of the Lowa Renegade that I got for an Africa hunt and light-duty hunting in Alaska, but they were so comfortable that I switched them over to everyday wear in at the office. Great boots.

Thank you for the input on this everyone, and great idea on the returns and treadmill! They sure feel nice to me, although like you said @buck wild, everything but the price. ;) Has anyone run them through really wet weather? I’ll be hunting Kodiak in October this year and intend to use them...

    Crispi Hunting Boots?

I’ve been in need of a new pair of hunting boots, so while at my local Sportman’s Warehouse today I took a look at their selection and saw that they had Crispi boots, which is a new brand to me. I tried on a pair of their boots (the Skarven GTX) and was incredibly impressed with the extreme...

ALASKA: Frog Morton Hunts Brown Bear

Thanks all, for the kind words and opinions, and I appreciate all the fellow hunters who took the time to read my hunt report! Brown bears are certainly among the wiliest and most intelligent predator species on this earth, and it is my opinion that legally hunting them over bait is no less...

    Politics

For the senate race in Alaska, the Democrat challenger (Gross) currently has 32% of the vote to the incumbent Republican's 62%. To turn the race around, Gross would need to take 70% of the remaining ballots. Gross appears to be pretty universally disliked around the state (ol' Joe has already...

    Politics

I've been fortunate enough to spend a bit of time in England, Wales, and Ireland over the past few years, and so many locals that I've come in contact with (even just briefly) at shops or pubs, B&Bs and campgrounds, etc. have a very positive opinion of our current president, both young and old...

    Brumby Hunting

I haven’t had an opportunity to try horse, but I would guess that it isn’t much different than zebra? To my way of thinking, all species (especially invasive ones) should be managed to maintain a balanced ecosystem. Pests are pests regardless of how cute or cuddly they might look!

Guess RSA is not opening anytime soon...

I was scheduled Anchorage to Johannesburg via Frankfurt with Lufthansa (domestic flights with Delta) for October 6th of this year, but received notification last week that at least one of the international flights has been canceled. We’re rescheduling our RSA hunt for 2021.

    Seal Hunting Information?

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, have the wild fish (such as seatrout) populations been increasingly impacted by the seals in recent years? That’s probably a loaded question, but you mentioning the local fisherman made me wonder if there’s been issues of late with increasing restrictions...

    Seal Hunting Information?

It almost sounds that way. Perhaps the museum would have to arrange the import themselves? Also, the language 'enhancing the survival or recovery of a species' seems fairly open-ended. Given the proper situation, I wonder if this would allow for the import of furs from a management hunt...

    Seal Hunting Information?

I didn't have a definite plan yet, as I figured that depending on where the hunt is, it may not be feasible to bring my own rifle (I haven't ventured into the realm of bow hunting!). From what I've seen so far, it looks like primarily rifle hunting (at least in the northern climes), but I...

    Seal Hunting Information?

Thanks for the link. That doesn't sound too promising for bringing hides back. On a slightly different note, the language of that USFWS page makes me wonder if products purchased out-of-country and made from seal skins might be allowed into the US? USFWS specifically states the cat species...

You hit the nail on the head right there, Chago. It always seems as if those who have the loudest and most negative views on different game management practices often are those who have the less knowledge and experience in the subject.
