Ask your PH. The only time I hunted S.A. I used a Bow. The rest of the Hunts in Africa I used a 264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag a 375 H&H Mag a 450-400 Nitro and a 500 Nitro
Just in time for Hunting Season. Used about 3 times hunting Deer it has a Duplex reticle. One ring mark. other than that as new. A CDS Dial . also have a set of Leupold steel rings 1" that were lapped for this scope.$350 buyer pays actual shipping and Insurance rings separately but available...
(Are you recommending a straight-walled cartridge for ease of loading, or for the romance, or both?) Strait Wall Cartridges so there is no ejection failures.
First of all get a Strait Wall Cartridge. I personally have a 500 NE but I would recommend a 450/400 for you. I have a couple rifles in 450/400 and love it. Also a custom built rifle is harder to resell than a Factory one, if that's something that might figure into the equation?.
If you are Hunting Deer size Game Sure. If you are going to Hunt in Africa a 450/400 Is a Much better Choice!!! I have a 500 Nitro Double and they are not for everyone. For Buffalo a 450/400 works and if you are only planning to take one or two Elephant a 450/400 is a Wise Choice!!!
I have Hunted the Omay with Dalton. He is a Very Good Guide. If you are Hunting with a Tape Measure you are Hunting for all the wrong reasons. Enjoy the Adventure for what it is.

I shot 10 animals in Namibia. Range was 40 yards to 410 yards. Both Scopes were 4.5 x 14 power. The longest shot was on a Baboon and I was glad I had the 14 power.
From the Factory the front trigger was 6lbs and rear trigger was 9lbs. JJ recomends 5lbs on both. That is what Holland and Holland recommends also. A starting point is half the weight of the rifle. Doubles are Heavy. I had a Brand new Remington 700 that had a 9lb Trigger!!! The Attouneys made...
