Every opinion posted has information worth considering.
I have owned three .460 Mark V rifles in the last 40 years. Have only killed whitetails with them but they do an outstanding job when using the lightest bullets you can find, in the 250 gr. to 300 grain range.
One of them was a...

Hi Backyard,
I contacted you back in August about this gun but we did not come to terms. I just saw this post, wish I had seen it before it was gone. If you run across another 460 please contact me.
Thanks, Bob
Not sure what the tuner is that you mentioned. Did your friend have 2 recoil lugs on his barrel ? Are you the gentleman who told me he hunted in Alaska with a 338 378 rifle before Weatherby started making them ? Lots of people on this site abhore muzzlebrakes . Aside from bystanders feeling...
Hi para45,
Been a few years since we communicated, always enjoyed your posts. It's in 300 but I could have have it rebarreled to any H&H caliber up to 470 Capstick. Using a borescope and seeing the pitting is what caused me to consider a new barrel.
I agree. But 470 Capstick is usually a very expensive rifle . The barrel for one costs the same as a 300 Weatherby. I know the platform isn't favored for dangerous game but if someone thinks they would like to try one, this one could be had for probably around $1800.
I should probably shoot it...
Bought a Japanese era 300 Weatherby in the Mark V flavor. Have never fired the gun. Recently got a borescope and decided it needs a barrel replacement. Since the gun will eventually be sold I realize there is a great many calibers to chose from and would like readers to help me pick which one...
Not being up to date on ear protection, aren't there devices that when used can allow conversation but shut out muzzle blast ? Any shooting done around others should always be the time for use of protection by all. That should be the given standard. I use soft plugs when hunting. If you soak...
Haven't been on here for a few years but would like to remind others that the bullet does the damage and follows the laws of physics regardless of history of any given caliber.
Something people ,especially those enamored by classic cartridges of yesteryear , ignore past results comparing new...
Did you read the entire thread ? I haven't tested it. Hopefully will get to a range between now and Tuesday. Local idiots trashed the closest public range several years ago and it was permanently closed. Just got a permit to use PA public ranges. Let me know if you want it, which state do you...
Which bullet did you choose for the moose ? Great post, thanks. Appears your eyesight is good enough for iron sights and I think the brownies were lucky not to try their luck messing with you.

Much fun has been had by many, that's better than fighting. A concern developed years ago that if I shot an animal and it was finished by the PH, what level of satisfaction can be gained ? Innumerable scenarios can occur. Good insurance for the hunter claiming his prize would be an above and...
Good information. I mentioned earlier the range I belonged to for years is run by 1,000 yard bench rest competitors. Can't recall all the calibers they used but yours doesn't ring a bell.
I was a mechanic and electrician in the coal mines and power plants for 40 years or so. I learned that...
Thanks for your input, but oh, there have been trolls on here long before I posted that ad. Just look up previous responses to Weatherby topics in the search history. Mostly the largest 5 calibers.
I am not, nor ever have been, some macho freak belittling people who are recoil sensitive. I...
Thanks for your input.
At the risk of being repetitive, I'm old and have no need to play unnecessary games . Admittedly the ad was not geared to beginners but I knew just posting "378 Weatherby" would result in negativity from certain type individuals who can't leave well enough alone. So I...
The range where I shot was mostly used by 1,000 yard benchrest shooters. Almost all of their competition guns are 6.5 mm caliber. The chamberings vary, seemingly determined by how long the owner wants the barrel to last. The casings I've seen generally were 6.5x284 and smaller.
I Wonder why...
Read an article a while back written about 416 caliber rifles by Craig Boddington. As he compared different chamberings he purposely left out the Weatherby, saying that rifle is in a class of it's own......
Awesome weapon
Some of these posts border on child-like school yard behavior. I can listen to people and learn from them. I'm too old for this type of nonsense. Caps were used because I was trying to make a point.
I worked in coal mines and power plants all my life and met wonderful people as well as those...
The results of this ad were pretty much as expected. Place a button in a room with nothing but the button and then invite people in and tell them "Whatever you do, DON'T push the button! ". Some can't help but push the button.....
If you can't handle recoil keep scrolling. If you shoot guns, braked or not, without hearing protection keep scrolling. If you think this rifle is not for you, you may keep scrolling as well.
In 1953 or so, Roy Weatherby came up with this chambering but it took bullet manufacturers 50 odd years...
