for some reason, they have been popping up on Gunbroker.com recently...its kinda nuts and very cyclical...a 6.5x54 MS complete receiver went for $150 last week.. I have 2 so I didn't bid...

The receiver is a 1907 Greek...comparing against the 1908 8x56 MS that I have, there is a lot more metal to the 1907...I will stick with a MS cartridge when I re-caliber because I really don't want to screw up the spindle...

Thanks for all the commentary and knowledge. I cheated and joined the Mannlicher Schoenauer Collectors Association after many years away from it. Plan is to put a hexagonal barrel on it in 9x56 MS or 9.5x56MS/9.5x57. I found a stock 95% stock for it California Claro Walnut... I'll do all the...

.25 Caliber Rifle Cartridges and the Future of Them

If time is not an issue and you want a gun exactly the way you want it, consider building it on a surplus mauser action. The K98 action has a ton of stock options with 95% and above inletting already done, and the magazine box dimensions are correct. I am going this route for a 7x57 a small...

.25 Caliber Rifle Cartridges and the Future of Them

I've always been fond of my accuracy term "MOA = Minute of Animal". The size of that "minute" is relative to the size of their vitals!

Thanks for the note. 9x56 MS would be another classic caliber. Now, I just need to get it done and get it into action somewhere.

That would be a GREAT choice. I saw one on Gunbroker for $1200 last year and didn't bid on it...I kick myself for that! It sold for $1250.

.25 Caliber Rifle Cartridges and the Future of Them

Neva Nevada, DISCLAIMER: I'VE NEVER SHOT A PROGHORN That being said, I have never had any issues with bullet performance on eastern and central US whitetails. To be fair, I've never recovered a bullet either. I have shot the Barnes 100 gr and Remington 115 RN into wet newspaper and...

I was thinking a "standard sized magazine"...forgot that wasn't something really don unitl later...especially in a time of proprietary rounds.

LOL...currently have a line of a Mauser 98 action and was thinking that may be the best platform for a 318 or 333.

.25 Caliber Rifle Cartridges and the Future of Them

Puddle, I'm matching those ballistics with a Barnes Bullet. My PBZ of 3 inches high at 100yds is 3.5 inches low at 300. I don't ever mess with changing dope!

good point! Thanks for the site...I'll have to reach out to them! I may have to rethink my decision to modify!

    Decisions, decisions...Looking for some help!

I have a machinist/gunsmith that can contour the magazine rotary based on the case dimensions. Based on my research, the rotary magazine can be modified slightly, based on the amount of steel there. The magazine box should be able to accept the cartridge's length without much modification...

.25 Caliber Rifle Cartridges and the Future of Them

I've got a 257 Roberts and it is a wonderfully shooting rifle. I reload my own ammo and it simply loves Barnes bullets. I've shot deer from 11 yards to 300 yards and they have never gone past 20 yds! Wonderful caliber!

    Decisions, decisions...Looking for some help!

I recently found a hen's tooth - a complete 1903 Steyr receiver with functioning rotary magazine. It accepts 8x56 MS, so, was probably chambered in 6.5MS. I want to build a "new" rifle on it and am waffling between a couple of old classics, like 318 WR or a 333 Jeffery. Am I missing out on...

    Looking For A 458

While not a M70, I have a CZ 550 chambered in 458 Lott. If you are interested in the gun, I price a package deal with reloading dies, brass and bullets. Brass is brand new and never opened...
