No, the 12 is the gauge of the shell stamped on the tool .. "12 gauge" ... that is the tool's special head that forms the crimp,... not a shell inside .... in the smaller gauges, 410ga, 28ga, 20ga, 16ga, 12ga, and 10ga, the crimping head is on top of the tool .... on the larger gauges, 8ga...
