    375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

Another idea: Are you shooting with the muzzle brake? If so, take it off and try again with just the thread protector installed.

    375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

Sure doesn’t look like the ring base slots in the receiver or the rings were machined wrong from Ruger. A scope should mount and zero normally from what I am seeing. Your scope shoots fine on another rifle….I’m stumped!

    375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

Do you happen to have a laser line level? You could set that rifle in your cradle and align the laser with the front and rear iron sights then see if the line perfectly centers the rifle’s scope mounting receiver cuts. If good, mount the ring bottom halves and reshoot the laser line. If still...

    375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

That must be a scope issue. Ruger rings and integral base are pretty bulletproof and a factory defect in either would be very obvious once your scope was set into the lower ring halves. I took my Vari-X iii off a Mark X and mounted on my Guide Gun (factory Ruger rings) and the scope only...

    375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

Ruger warns that the ring caps should not be switched between the ring sets. If you think the caps might have been switched, then it’s possible that would cause your windage issue.

    375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

No. Install both lower ring halves on the base first, then set the scope, and then add the top ring halves.

    375 Ruger Guide Gun Issues

After indexing each ring in it’s slot, keep forward pressure (toward muzzle) on the ring while finger tightening the mounting screw. Ruger says mounting screw should then be torqued to 30 in-lbs. I just mounted a Vari-X 3iii 1.5-5 on my new 416 Ruger Guide Gun with Ruger rings and it laser...

You want to buy something special, you want to treat yourself, what rifle do you buy?

Just treated myself to a 416 Ruger Guide Gun on Thursday and added AA’s extended floor plate and a Vari-X 3iii 1.5-5. Thursday was also my 46th wedding anniversary. :sneaky:

    Perfect Rifle Balance?

Very interesting info. My 458 has a 26” heavy(ish) profile barrel and feels pretty good as-is, but I would like to get the weight up a bit from 9.37#. I know that will move the CG closer to the floor plate center which sounds like an overall win. I’m 90% sure this rifle will be my safari mate...

Great info, thanks. Middle of floorplate as a target point it will be.

    Perfect Rifle Balance?

I was thinking of adding some weight or a recoil reducer in the butt so that would move the CG to where you suggest. I realize the weight alone will help with felt recoil but am curious how much CG needs to be a factor when selecting how much weight to add?

    Perfect Rifle Balance?

Is there such a thing or is rifle balance just a matter of preference? In 60 years of firearms ownership and hunting I have never considered balance to be a factor worth investigating, much less actually modifying. I am now interested in helping my 9.37# .458 WM adopt a more sympathetic...

    .458 WM Identity?

Should have clarified in OP. Rifle was disassembled and there is no maker’s name on the metal’s underside. There is a mark at the barrel/receiver junction:

    .458 WM Identity?

Well, that’s your opinion.…and clearly an uneducated one. ANY safety can be disengaged. I, too, have read that some Buehler safeties could release if jiggled. This Timney will not, at least not without a hammer and doubtful even then. The coin is used in the gap between cocking piece and...

    .458 WM Identity?

I have no idea why this cocking piece is flat, or exactly what purpose it serves. This trigger is a Bold trigger, as stated in the OP. Not Timney. The safety lever I installed to replaced the original 3-position military “flag” safety is mfg by Timney and is their low profile “Beuhler style”...

    .458 WM Identity?

Sorry, I should have been more clear in OP. I am aware it is an M98, obviously. I don’t know if it is a commercial action or not ‘tho. The cocking piece makes me think possibly commercial. I did a no-go gauge after purchase and the rifle is an excellent shooter. I did replace the flat...

    .458 WM Identity?

I need help identifying the possible gunmaker of my .458 WM. I bought this rifle from a LGS in 2023 but the seller only surmised it was built in the 70’s. The rifle has a serial number, the number “372”, “.458 Winch”, and that’s all. It has a Bold trigger, 26” barrel, and the stock work is...

    Thoughts about Leupold VX-3HD

I have the VX-3HD 3.5-10x40 on my -06 and like it, especially the Firedot. No complaints with the CDS so far and found no reason to remove the cap once it was zero’d to 100.

    Round Chambered…or Not?

Good info…thanks y’all. Of course I will comply with the PH’s requests but was hoping to hear a consensus of PHs ok with load off the truck. I’ve never hunted stateside any other way.

    Round Chambered…or Not?

My perception from reading various AH posts is that PHs require the client to carry their firearm unchambered on tracks, or at least from the track outset? I’m interested in hearing how a “routine” track might progress for buff, specifically, with regard to at what point the client is...

Yes, the Warne ring levers can index in any position & I assume the AAs can as well. The Warnes on my Ruger don’t interfere with the bolt cycle or loading/ejecting.

Yes, they fit Ruger’s proprietary integral base cuts and AA’s are the traditional horizontal split ring as opposed to Warne’s vertical clamp. Just aesthetics for me, I guess. These Warne rings have been great on my .375 so not throwing any shade on ‘em.
