IMHO, the .416 Ruger Guide Gun with the AA’s extended mag and QR rings coupled with a 1-5ish scope makes an ideal DG setup. I “accidentally” ended up with 2 rifles in 416 Ruger so needed to sell one or either divorce this wife for the second time.

I just installed an NECG pad on my Ruger #1 and found it is much easier to finish out than the Pachmayr Decelerator pads I have on other rifles, if you are a DIY’er. Thinking the compound must be different.

The primary purpose of the quarter rib on any DG rifle is to mystically compel me to wrap these booger hooks around my hind wallet. I swear I will never understand why.

Buffalo Bore has 400gr TSX loaded in their 416 Ruger @2400 fps. That would be the ticket, if you can find them in stock. Hornady just released some 416 brass so maybe BB will load more soon.

All that being said I have a monumental hankering for a Ruger #1 in .450/.400. That’s coming from a guy that’s selling a .416 Ruger and about to list a .375 Ruger African because I have decided my .416 Ruger Mark X will be all the DG rifle I will ever need.
