    Enfield vs. Mauser

I got my magazine box from Numrich. Mine is a P17, but they have both. I got the "Cock on Open" kit from them, as well as some back up parts in case I'd need them. Very reasonable prices. Their catalogue is about 3" thick. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/search#query=P14%20ENFIELD%20Magazine

    Enfield vs. Mauser

When I built my first one, we used my buddy's mill to open the ejection port up and then modified the bottom of the action to take a .375 length magazine box. I think a .460 Weatherby or .500 Jeffrey is longer yet. I'll have to look in the manual...they are much fatter at least. The Granite...

    Enfield vs. Mauser

Granite Mountain Arms got back to me. Their actions are all the same price: $3250. So, not as bad as the guy trying to sell one on gunbroker.com, but still a pretty penny. The old Enfield is looking pretty good again :)

    Enfield vs. Mauser

Neil, I was thinking the Model 1917 or maybe the P14. That's what I built my other rifle on. Well, I say I "built" it. I did what I could, but know a really good gunsmith that did the lion's share of work on it. Flewis, have talked to that gentleman. I may wind up getting one from him...

    Enfield vs. Mauser

Hi everyone, Forgive me if this has been beaten to death in the past....but I did do some searching and didn't find much on it. I would like to build another bolt action rifle. My first was a .375 Weatherby on a Winchester Enfield M1917 action. Essentially a copy of an A-Square Hannibal...

Your favorite hunting rifle of all time

Hi Forrest, I just went back and checked. Mine has two screws in the trigger. I'd never noticed them before. I bought it new sometime in the late 90's to early 2000's. I've only shot it maybe 50-60 times. Once it started doing this I got a bit concerned and stopped. I called Ruger and...

Your favorite hunting rifle of all time

Forrest, I've never actually measured it. It's whatever it is as it comes from the factory. I don't actually have a trigger scale. Guess I should get one. It doesn't feel overly light. I've never had a misfire with it loaded. But I've found if you close the lever with the safety off, it once...

Your favorite hunting rifle of all time

I have two .45-70's: The Ruger No. 1 and a Marlin 1895 Cowboy lever action (has a trim no-pistol grip stock like a Winchester and a 26" octagonal barrel). The Marlin has a longer throat than the Ruger. Maybe I should just leave it a .45-70 and get the throat opened up to seat longer bullets...

Your favorite hunting rifle of all time

I've got a No. 1 in .45-70. I like it, but it sometimes goes off when you close the lever. I need to get it looked at. Had thought about rechambering it to .450 Nitro or something similar. They are pretty rifles :)

Curious about the 6.5 Weatherby RPM

It sounds like a pretty good caliber. I recently bought a new Winchester Model 70 Supergrade with a really beautiful curly maple stock in .264 Winchester. I actually bought a pair of them....they were the special edition guns from year or two ago when Winchester did a run of Super Grades with...

Your favorite hunting rifle of all time

This is my favorite rifle. Because I built it from scratch. I bought a Winchester made Enfield M17 that had hung on a wall for about 50 years. Did a ton of research for a "one rifle safari" and settled on the .375 Weatherby. It's got more zoot than the H&H and you can fire H&H's out of it...

    What about a .375 Wby?

I think the .375 Weatherby is one of the best cartridges ever created. I analyzed a lot of them and settled on this one. I machined my A-Square Hannibal clone on it. I built my rifle from scratch, on an Enfield P17 action of Winchester. I actually chronographed it. 2889 ft/s with a 300...

    Calibers for leopard

I have a Model 70 in .264 Win Mag and absolutely love it. I hand load, and I'm pushing a 140 at 3100 ft/s. I have only shot white tail deer with it, but it's absolutely nuclear on them. Exit hole was the size of a soup can. Deer was dead before it hit the ground. The only other rifle I have...

    Wanted 375 Weatherby Mag Ammunition

FlyingC, I don't know how to do a PM on here. Do you still have these 375 Wby's and if so, what would you take for them?

    Hello from North Carolina

Hi Hall! I'm new here too. I'm two states north of you in WV. Welcome aboard. I too want a dagga boy :) Maybe I'll see you over there!

Disappointed In My New 404 Jeffery

I have a Kickeze on my A-Square Hannibal clone and it works very well. I also have a 16oz mercury recoil reducer in the stock, and the rifle is heavy at 12lbs empty. But it's controllable and I can shoot it without flinching. I just have to carry it a lot to practice and be used to the weight...

Soft Points & Solids in a hot .375

Fox, I put a lot of time and effort into this rifle and am rather proud of it. I shoot it without flinching, and can normally hit a 1" square rock at 80 yards without too much trouble off a standup rest. I've not tried sticks yet, and that will be my next thing. But with the coil check stock...

Soft Points & Solids in a hot .375

Hi Everyone, My apologies in advance if this has been discussed 10,000 times already. I did my best to search the forums and found a little bit of info....but seemed to hijack another thread so thought it best to create a new one. So I have managed to build a variation of an A-Square Hannibal...

    375 H&H Solid/Soft Combo Run Off

Toby, I'm sorry if I sort of hijacked your thread. I didn't mean to. I'll make a new one with my question about solids and soft points. It just seemed like you guys were kind of talking about it on here. But I didn't mean to distract... Habib, Thank you again for the reply.

    375 H&H Solid/Soft Combo Run Off

Habib, thank you for the excellent reply. I have the Barnes TSX 300's already, as well as Swift A-Frame, Sierra Game King, Woodleigh Weldcore, all 300's. I just ordered a box of Cutting Edge Bullets Safari Solids in 300gr and their 275gr Safari Raptors. At least for my .375, I've got a pretty...

Show Me Your 375 Caliber Buffalo!

Wow, using a single shot Ruger No. 1! That's cool! I have a No. 1 in .45-70 but have been thinking of rechambering it to something bigger. A smokeless .45-120 is basically a .450 Nitro Express. But just wasn't sure about a single shot on dangerous game. That's why I built my Enfield .375...

    375 H&H Solid/Soft Combo Run Off

I have been looking on here for the answer to this question, so forgive me if it's been answered 1000 times already and I just didn't find it. But, I plan to take my .375 Weatherby on a Cape Buff hunt. I have loaded up Swift A-Frames, Barnes TSX, and Woodleigh Weldcore 300gr's. I've also gone...

Hi from Jim, the guy who dreams of going to Africa....

That's a really awesome story, Sue. I wish my wife felt the same way. Sadly, she has little to no enthusiasm for going on a safari with me. My son, who is an excellent photographer, also has little interest. When I go, it will probably be just me. I'd like to take my dad...but he's getting...

Ha ha! I had to look up "eish"....wasn't sure what it meant. South African for "Excited". I need to brush up on my Afrikaans. My Calc 1 prof was from South Africa and spoke Afrikaans. Willem Schroeder. He flew Cessna's and DC-3's over there. I wish I had a job that cool...

Hi from Jim, the guy who dreams of going to Africa....

I've been reading your writeup on your Kalahari trip. Looks awesome! They say this new SLS system is "da bomb" but I still like the Saturn V. Some of my prof's worked on it back in the day. Cool stuff. Now I do civil..... :(

Hi from Jim, the guy who dreams of going to Africa....

Thank you for the advice, Velo Dog. The .458 Lott does make a lot of sense. Like my .375 that I can shoot H&H's out of if the ammo gets lost, you can do .458 Winchesters in the Lott. I guess with one of those, I could just buy a Model 70 (I really like Winchesters) and not have to go through...

Hi from Jim, the guy who dreams of going to Africa....

I'd wondered about smaller stuff and if I should bring a smaller rifle as well. I've got a few I could bring. The .375 Roy is the biggest gun I currently have. My dad has a .458 Winchester M70 I could probably borrow. But if I bring him with me, he'll probably use it :) I've got a .30-06...

Hi from Jim, the guy who dreams of going to Africa....

Thank you, Bob. If it redeems me any, I do have a Winchester Model 1897 made in 1899 that I shoot that has zero blueing left. And, even better, I have a Parker 12ga double side by side made in 1909 that is a real Hammer. I love the old ones! The Parker had some dents in the barrel but my...

Hi from Jim, the guy who dreams of going to Africa....

Bob, I don't have any yet. But I had the rifle throated and the freebore sized for the 350's. I was thinking with the extra velocity over the H&H, I could push 350's out of her. Gonna give it a whirl!

That is a GREAT quote on the box of 19 cartridges :) I'm a big believer in the Coil Check stock. It might look like a boat paddle, but the physics of the thing works!

Hi from Jim, the guy who dreams of going to Africa....

Would it be Saeed? (I think that's how you spell it). I actually emailed him a long time ago and he actually emailed me back. Cool guy! He uses a .375/.404 (or is it a .404/.375?) that he loads to just about the same velocity as mine. Said he's taken everything with it. I think he told me...

Hi from Jim, the guy who dreams of going to Africa....

Bob, that is some great advice. I've never shot off sticks. I need to do that. A lot. I usually have a giant rubbermaid box on the back of a 4-wheeler with carpet and sandbags on it. But it lets me shoot from near standing position. I'm hesitant to shoot this thing off a sit down bench. Do...

Hi everyone, I'd mistakenly put this in the wrong place. Jerome, thankfully, told me the right link :) My name is Jim Golden, and it has been my dream for my 53 years to go to Africa. I'm an aerospace engineer, a pilot, and a half decent machinist and rifle fan boy. I built a .375 Weatherby...

    375 Weatherby

I've shot about 40 rounds of .375 H&H out of my .375 Weatherby. It did just fine. Very gentle. Recoil was far less than the Weatherby rounds. It fire forms the cases to be a .375 Weatherby, with the double radius shoulder, but the necks are a little short. In a scrape, though, they work...
