Extra 75 gr or a few more FPS Buffalo arrow?

What is the poundage of your bow? I just got back from a buff hunt with a buddy and did not see a significant difference in penetration between 700 gr arrows and 800 grain arrows out of 70# bows. The broadhead made more of a difference. Iron Will broadheads penetrated better.

Help set up rifles for Zim!

Yes, I know its not the same level. I would not attempt an Elephant with a 9,3- that will be with the 375 Ruger with solids. I was just wondering if we were after plains game and happened across buffalo. Many say the 9,3x62 is sufficient on a buff. I do happen to have some 286gr Woodleigh...

Help set up rifles for Zim!

I was comparing the 9,3x62 Mauser vs the 9,3x64 brenneke. On a side note I can reload my ‘62 to higher velocities than factory fodder since it’s in a modern action

Help set up rifles for Zim!

I generally travel with my bow in a rolling duffel bag with my clothes and gear. So I will be bringing a hard sided double rifle case. Thus the thought to bring 2 rifles. My buddy may also use the second rifle for “bait” as well. I Know traveling lighter is easier. But is there much...

Help set up rifles for Zim!

The 375 Ruger is the largest caliber I have- not ready to upgrade yet to a “proper” Elephant rifle until this hunt is paid and I decide I like elephants  This hunt will be for a non-importable non-trophy animal. The PH said it would work just fine for a brain shot at correct distance and...

Help set up rifles for Zim!

Here are the two I mentioned- What scope would you put on the 375 Ruger? What bullets to load? For Elephant? For Buffalo? The 9.3x62 has a vortex razor 1.5x8x 32 on it. I currently have a load with 250gr TSX bullets

Looks like my buddy talked me into another trip last 2 were archery hunts in South Africa. This time the real deal for Dangerous game in Zimbabwe! I still plan to bring a bow to hopefully get a leopard which will be the primary target. Secondary will be Elephant which I plan to use my...

    Bongo or Lord Derby Eland?

Wow, lots of interests in these hunts. Thanks for the info so far. Sounds like both could be in the future, with most saying LDE first From a numbers standpoint would you say there are more LDE hunts available vs Bongo? Equal quality currently available for both? Any one more likely to be less...

    Bongo or Lord Derby Eland?

Which one would you prefer to hunt? Of course I would love to do both but if you had to prioritize a hunt which would you say is an overall “better” experience? Value? On a side note, are there any future concerns with either animals availability or importability to the US?

    Importable Elephant hunt

What are the current options for an Importable elephant hunt? I heard it’s “case by case” basis to the USA, but I would assume some have a proven track record. I would also assume these are more expensive than other hunts? What size tusk would you consider “minimum “ to go through the...

Exotic Wildlife Auction in Texas for the Star-S Ranch

Just like every hot market should have got in 5 years ago. I was talking to one operation and they said a prime breeder giraffe could go for $250,000! Could make this like the Holland Tulip Mania of the 1600’s and start selling futures on animals not born yet!!
