What is the BEST piece of hunting advice you've been given?

Don't pull the trigger if you are uncertain or don't feel comfortable with the shot. Saves a lot of hassle in the end

SOUTH AFRICA: Hunting Kudu With Warren At Rhinoster Hoek

Randy, as usual it was great to have you visit us again, even better that we eventually met your good wife Shannon personally at last. Belinda enjoyed having some female company and she had great fun showing her the sights. Was skeptical about that "Bob" fellow you brought with, but he worked...

Is culling more of a job than hunting?

This is management hunting, trying to find these old bull that are struggling to survive this never ending drought that we in the Eastern Cape are experiencing and put them out of their misery.

    Porcupine?

Just plain a pest. Ring bark trees, dig up the vegetables, raid the feed store. As a kid used to hunt them on moonlight nights with "kieries" (sticks). Taste like chicken. The skin is a delicacy, made crispy over a fire. Mainly nocturnal, but you get them during the day as well. Got one that...

SOUTH AFRICA: Rhinoster Hoek Trip Report

Yeah Randy, I think Dobber is so busy catching up on work that he missed while hunting, that he missed a day. For interest sake, the mainly nocturnal animals like porcupine, jackal and black footed cat (small spotted cat) were all seen during the day. Maybe they were confused by the full moon.

What Caliber Do African Professional Hunters Use

Registered Outfitter and PH as well, use a .222 for small animals ie duiker, steenbok grysbok .243 for the likes of springbok, impala, blesbok and a 30-06 for wildebeest kudu zebra etc. Both ,243 and 30-06 are made by Musgrave. Even use a much underestimated 303.

Cape Town storm: Five killed as drought ends

Agree, the drought is far from over. The wind is the killer at present. I don't think us in the Eastern Cape will get any though.
