    Rechambering to .416 Ruger

I suspect 0.620". After checking Howa lists the barrel diameter of all #2 Contours at 0.620" and I suspect that is correct for the 22". Most barrels in that range with a straight taper lose around 0.010 an inch. I will have to measure to confirm.

    6.5 Creedmoor on Warthog

I may have a opportunity to go on a 5-Day with Kuche in Limpopo for Blemsbok, Impala and Warthog in 2019. I noticed they recommend 7mm and up for mininums. I have a 6.5 Creedmoor (pretty much a ballistic twin to full pressure 6.5x55 loads) that I shoot really well with 129 Hornady Interlocks @...

    .375 H&H Do Critics Exist?

Well I posted that a little tongue in cheek. Since he thought the .270 was a fine Coyote Rifle (I also realize this was Hyperbole and many things said in the "Feud" was intended to drive magazine sales) and to light for deer. I think the statement I read was better Elk cartidges started with a 4...

    .375 H&H Do Critics Exist?

I think Elmer Keith had an opinion that it was a decent pronghorn, deer and midsize antelope cartridge but a little on the light side for elk and large antelope.

Left Hand .375 Ruger under $600

PN #37133 Photo shows one Crossbolt and No End Cap. However you would have to research the part number to know for sure (Sometimes the photos are not replaced when part numbers are superceded).

    416 Ruger for under $700

Item # 791375600 is $620.70 Looks like the same seller. Looks like the difference is One Crossbolt, No Front Stock Sling Stud and No Contrasting Front Cap.

Winchester Safari Express to 404 conversion

If you want the barrel rebored JES has a reputation for quality work, fast turn around and a fair price. Muzzle Diameter would need to be a minimum of 0.623".

    .375 H&H Do Critics Exist?

Often wondered why the .375x64 never caught on. Would have made a dandy substitute for the H&H in Standard Actions. No chance of that now that the .375 Ruger has been Introduced.

    .375 H&H Do Critics Exist?

(Disclaimer: I have no real experience with the Big 5 or Brown Bears so take this for what it's worth.) I know the statement has been over used but it truly is the African .30/06. In the vast majority of the USA it's adequate for anything that walks. Even in those locations where it's light...

    Rechambering to .416 Ruger

I appreciate the thought but I've already seen it. I'm contemplating it. The conversion is a no go anyway. The factory specs are wrong. It's around 0.600" at the muzzle. Basically would limit me to the .378 Class Cartridges.

    Which caliber over .458

I would like a .470 NE but it would likely need to weigh more than I want to tote. I've already decided a 10.75 lb 450/400 3" is about my limit in recoil.

    8.5 # 375 H&H

Dakota 76 Classic .375 H&H 23" Barrel Blued / Walnut 7 lb 12 oz Cabela's in Wheeling WV (Ref#7882844) has a very nice pre-owned in the Gun Library they are asking $4,995 for. They usually pay around 70% so you should be able to negotiate $4,000 to $4,500. Leupold VX2 1-4x20 8 oz (Out of...

    416 Ruger for under $700

Two Mercury Reducers in the Stock would get it up to 9 lb. Scope (if you use one) and ammo should get you over 10 lb. Thanks for the heads up. I'm definitely thinking about it.

    378 Wheatherby Magnum, opinions please

I've never shot a .378 so I'm not going to comment. If you find a nice .375 Weatherby though it's pretty nice. A little more speed if you want it with the ability to shoot .375 H&H if you need to. Of course it's not on the same planet as the .378 Weatherby, more like a slightly improved .375...

    .375 H&H Do Critics Exist?

Nothing wrong with the .375 H&H. Makes great plinking ammo for my .375 Wby. Got to have something for the Chipmunks!

What calibers would be needed for a proper dangerous game cartridge display?

Most obvious omission appears to be the .416 Remington. Then of course you have the Weatherby Calibers which opens the door to other proprietary cartridges. I do know a Dakota chambered for .400 H&H is on my dream list.

    Rechambering to .416 Ruger

It's a Medium Sporter Barrel and isnt much different than my .375 Weatherby Southgate. Maybe even a touch heavier given the smaller scope on the .375 Wby. .620 Muzzle Diameter (according to the Specifications which reminds me I need to measure to confirm). By comparison a factory CZ in 9.3x62...

    Rechambering to .416 Ruger

I recently bought a Howa 1500 .338 Win Mag. It was in unfired condition and stupid cheap. Problem is Im not really enamored of the caliber. I know some here have experience with converting the Short Mags (.264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag etc.) to the Ruger Mags. What has been your...

    Change my 300 Win Mag

For me a .300 WSM might be an option if I needed an Ultralight Mountain Rifle or had a Short Action I dearly loved but wanted a more potent cartridge otherwise I would stick with what I have. Of course this would certainly be an excuse to add a Ultra Light Rifle to the collection if you can...

Fantastic Article - A must read for all of you so called experts

That appears to be Robojournalism written by a Bot. You can tell be the strange ayntax and word choices. I used to be agree with .223 being to small for deer but I no longer do. The modern bullet choices have changed my mind. I think it's adequate for deer under 200 lb. A friend's 11 yo...

Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

Centerfire Rifle Battery .223 Remington .30/06 .375 H&H Add to that: .22 LR 12 ga. I think with those five long arms I could realistically hunt anything and not feel overly handicapped. Sometimes the choices are common, pedestrian and boring because they are very good at what they do.

    Custom Mauser questions

Ohhh!!!! Love has it's price and it's steep! Lil' Sisters Fiance just traded his Porsche GT3... Good luck with the rifle. I will say the Howa 1500 is a very good entry level pushfeed. The stock.however will likely have to be replaced and the factory finish is at best pedestrian.

    Rechambering to Ruger Magnums

If you have rechambered a rifle in a standard action length belted magnum (.264 Win Mag, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, .338 Win Mag, etc) to a Ruger Magnun how much work did it take to make it feed correctly? I have a Howa 1500 in .338 Win Mag I picked up in unfired condition for a stupid low...
