    Disappointing PPU 9.3x62mm Brass

Likewise, I had the same issue with both Graf and RWS 9.3x62 brass and ended up using a Lee shell holder that worked fine.

New rifle, One and only for Africa

I would probably shop for a .30-06. Hard to beat for versatility and gets the job done under most conditions. I know many who chose that as a first rifle with lasting satisfaction.

    Converting 450/400 3 1/4 cases to 450/400 3"?

You'd be better off sizing down .450 - 3 1/4" cases and trimming to length. When you do the initial sizing, set the shoulder length a bit long and try for fit, gradually screwing the die in 1/8th turn at a time to reduce shoulder length until the case rim sits flush with the breech face. You...

10.75x68 reloading with 404 Jeffery bullets

In a sound rifle, and with the right modern powders, you should be able to safely load it to original .404 levels in the 2200+ fps range with a 400 grainer. The reality is that 2150 fps will give you all you really need for anything, anywhere.

    404 Ruger

I bought some 350 grain RN in .416 that had poor quality control as well, I had to segregate out the ones with noses that didn't fill out or had voids, as your photos illustrate. On the otherhand, the ones that passed inspection would shoot close into clover leaf groups at 100 yds. I used the...

    Loading up a .405 Winchester

Another bit for interest, my experience using 400 gr Woodleighs in my original Win M95. Again, due to my rifle having a. 413" groove diameter, I started with the .416" 400 gr round nose designed for the. 416 Remington. I lubed and shoved them through a .413" sizing dia a couple of times. Using...

Best .45 ACP round for black bear protection

For factory loads, I'd use either the Buffalo Bore or Underwood 250 gr .45 ACP +P round. Both will give you the claimed velocity, but Underwood seem to be a tad hotter and will give you close to 1000 fps in a 5" barrel. Either should be fine for black bear.

    What’s everyone using for Buffalo?

For nostalga, I like my trusty Winchester M1895 .405 WCF with a healthy dose of Viht N530 and a tough Hawk 350 grainer at 2270 fps. Otherwise I have my absolutely reliable FN M98 Express rifle in 9,3x66 Sako (converted from 9,3x62) with a 286 grain Barnes TSX at about 2530 fps.

    370 Sako Mag (9.3x66)

Very impressive! I need to get me some of those new powders! Does Speer have any data for the 9.3x62 listed?

    370 Sako Mag (9.3x66)

Interesting, is that measured velocity or guesstimated? What sort of pressure you running at? I bet it is pretty warm... I couldn't find any data for the Whelen using that powder, so would be cautious on the side of safety. The only powders I could get my hands on over here before the...

    Considering a Browning A5

You can't go wrong with an A-5. I have my Grandfather's Belgium made Light Twelve 2 3/4" with the 28" modified choke barrel. It is ugly as sin, but just fits, feels and functions so reliably that it is now my go to shotgun. Over the years I have also picked up extra barrels: 24" Hastings...

    370 Sako Mag (9.3x66)

Sad to hear about Bruce passing away. We had some good conversations regarding the 9.3mm over the years and shared loading data. Here is my latest data I worked up for the 9.3x66. Rifle: FN M98 Custom Safari by Safari Arms Barrel: 24" Lothar Walther Projectile: Nosler 9.3mm 250 grain Accubond...

    Loading up a .405 Winchester

I was out playing with my chronograph this weekend testing my accuracy loads. I was using an original Winchester 95 (circa 1922) with a .413" groove dia. I swapped out the the original front sight (.363" height) with a .375" height Williams Fire Sight, which is a lot easier on the eyes. Being...

    .45 ACP recommendations

I have an all stainless steel SIG P220 .45 ACP with adjustable night sights. It fits my hands like a glove and shoots out of the box about as well as a tuned 1911. This is my go to pistol.

    What’s your beater rifle?

A 1950's era FN M98 9.3mm Safari grade that has been cleaned up and rechambered to 9.3x66 Sako to freshen the throat up. Should give it a few more thousand rounds lifespan.

New to me Win '95 .405 Win

A very good hunting stick indeed! Time to take her out on a hunt and give us a good field report.

    RCC Brass

I've used Hornady brass in 30-06, 9.3x62, 9.3x74 and 405 Win. I've been very happy with all of them, and would buy in 404 if I had one.

    Bore ok or pass?

Give it a good cleaning and see how she looks. Over the years I've picked up a few guns with bores that looked worse than that. It was all dust, dirt and old fouling. After a good cleaning they were smooth and shiny, and I was (and still am) very happy with them. By the way, my original circa...

    44-40,s part two, loads tried

I used to have a nice M53 set up similar to yours. My pet load uses the Winchester 200 gr SP with 16.5 gr of Blue Dot. Velocity was in the mid 1600 fps range with good accuracy and enough pressure for consistent and clean burning.

    Loading dies for 375 flanged

I bought a set of RCBS 375 H&H Belted Mag dies off a bloke who had been using them for years to reload for a 375 H&H Flanged Mag double rifle he used to own. He said they worked perfectly for either round.

    Arsenal gaps

Get a nice 22 Hornet or maybe a 32-20 and load it up a with 100-115 gr projectiles for about 2000 fps.

    .22 Hornet legal in Namibia?

Take it, a recommendation is just that, a recommendation. If you want a bit more grunt, load it with H Lil'Gun, and if that isn't enough, you can always turn her into a K-Hornet. My Browning A-Bolt K-H will drive a 50 gr Sierra BK at an honest 2900 fps out of a 24" 1-12" barrel with 12.6...

    Leopard bullet choice
