First buffalo for me. Amazing experience! The .460wby did the job! 15 miles of tracking over 2 days. All came together.... great hunt.

As another astute poster here told me when I bought that exact rifle, check your cross bolts! Mine were loose. I added a little blue loctite to mine and snugged her up. Congrats on the new boomer! Great rifle!

Just weighed it with the scope. I'm over 11lbs. The big Weatherby is 11.5lbs. I could have swore this .416 was closer to 10lbs. I'll get used to it. ;-)

Went with Talley Bases and QD Rings. Z8i 1x8. These almost look like they were made for this rifle scope combo.

Quick range report.... worked through 27 400gr loads, mostly to burn up factory loads I had. Recoil was a bit more than I was expecting, it's honestly worse than my .460wby with a Pendelton brake. Accuracy seems very good, 77gr of Varget works well with the 400gr TSX and the Banded solids. Iron...

That's the plan for tomorrow! Hoping the process is swift. Seems like the big bores are less finicky than the smaller stuff sometimes.

The hog I shot the other day did a mock 'charge' at me...even though it was in a trap it got my blood pumping a bit so in my mind it was good practice.

Yep. My 340 is about my limit for off the bench. I may have to give this one a couple off the bench just to see though. Ha.

I put some blue loctite on them. After I get some lead down range I'll make sure they are still tight and go from there. This rifle is lighter than I thought it'd be. Trigger is great! Have a feeling it's going to be a bit spunky off the bench. I can't wait. ;-)

Man, you were right as rain. Both cross bolts were loose. I probably would have never thought to check that. Was yours dirty from the factory too? This one took some serious scrubbing to get the bore clean

I hope so, I handled a new mod 70 in 30.06 before buying this one. It was very smooth cycling, I wasn't expecting that in a factory CRF action.

Sounds good. I work some up and see how they do. I grabbed 50pc of Hornady brass, Norma brass in .416 was higher than .460! Crazy!

FWIW, 350gr .458 Hornady interlock moving at 3000fps work great on unruly swine. .223 seems, ahem, almost anemic. ;-)

In preparation for my cape buff hunt in July I've recruited a unwilling participant. He's not a buffalo but he will meet a similar fate. I think the .460 should perform adequately. ;-) plus I need the practice.

Great info. I had a feeling Nosler brass was actually Norma (for the Weatherby calibers anyway) I do find Norma brass a bit soft in the head when running hot loads in my 340wby. Usually only get 3 loads out of one piece before they won't hold the primer very well.

I'd consider renting but I doubt many outfits have a LH rifle.

Yep. It definitely takes some getting used to. I bought my .460 before I bought the .340. After running through a box of max loads in that beast makes everything else during the range trip seem tame. ;-)

Yep. Just did mine today at my local field office. Nothing to it really. They took my passport and DL, checked the S/N's on the rifles and scopes and said I'm good to go. While I was there I asked them about registering a bow as my buddy is coming with me with his. He said it's better to be safe...
