    Buck falls to the Merkel

Stunning Country. Having shed a lot of my normal stalking gear - it's too hot to be carrying nice to have stuff, even close to home, so just a belt with knife and water bottle, I had left my rangefinder at base- not that I needed it but I do like to range a shot after taking it for the record...

    Buck falls to the Merkel

Not Africa and not Dangerous Game but stalking in the dried up UK is rather akin to plains game hunting in Africa at the mo! Managed to connect with this fellow this evening with my old Merkel DR (8x60r)

I have wanted Steyr SL in .222 ever since I was a lad. Managed to get one recently. Haven't had much chance to use it much yet but have had a couple of foxes with it. Great to see what others are shooting with their .222s

Why are there no Double Rifles which are Over and Under?

Not sure about this "looking down the barrels" thing A well fitted double rifle (and shotgun) when used on moving game, if correctly mounted, should point where you are looking as you swing onto the target.

There is now no limit to the number of components one can possess. The limits apply to number of complete rounds (in the UK)

Best Bond is dead. Sir Sean Connery!

Aye . He is dead now . 90 years is a good result for anyone. I lost interest in the man years ago when he decided to meddle in politics, a "professional Scotsman" , tax -exile not living in Scotland and wobbling on about the Scottish Independence referendum. Hey ho. Never speak ill of the dead .

    Snap Caps

The Kynoch ones were about £55 a pair. (8 x 60r) They are well made, steel and brass construction with some sort of very hard rubber type substance as a "Primer". Hard to say whether there is a spring inside as they are won't dismantle. They have FN on the head-stamp so presumably made by FN?

    Snap Caps

I recently purchased some from Kynoch, they were pretty pricey but still don't feel comfortable pulling the trigger . (I have a Merkel but it is over 90 yrs old and have no idea what they say about snap caps)

    Snap Caps

What are people's views on the use of snap caps in double rifles? Does any one use them (two pairs) for practicing / rehearsing firing/reloading? (Apologies if this has been covered before.)

Double Triggers vs Single Selective Triggers (In Terms Of Speed)

The question was "Strictly speaking in terms of speed of firing of the second barrel..." So "Strictly speaking in terms of speed of firing the second barrel" a double trigger :)

Double Triggers vs Single Selective Triggers (In Terms Of Speed)

By the way the shot-gun is still as tight on it's face as it was 40 years ago when I deliberately doubled it and it has fired many thousands of shells since then. Back in the old days firing both barrels together was a technique often employed by market gunners when the wanted to "brown" a raft...
  37. 8 x 60

Double Triggers vs Single Selective Triggers (In Terms Of Speed)

Yes so do I. I used finger tips in the two finger technique. I think people are taking what I said out of context. I used the two fingers just to prove a point when my son was saying how much faster his single trigger was...o_O
  38. 8 x 60

Double Triggers vs Single Selective Triggers (In Terms Of Speed)

Yes of course Red Leg. It was done to prove a point. I have deliberately doubled my shotgun in the past, its no big deal.
  39. 8 x 60

Double Triggers vs Single Selective Triggers (In Terms Of Speed)

Yes of course. I don't shoot like that normally RedLeg! It was to prove a point. I have however deliberately doubled my 12 bore more than once and it's no big deal. :)

Double Triggers vs Single Selective Triggers (In Terms Of Speed)

I can fire my s x s 12 bore two shots faster than my son can fire his off which has a single selctive trigger. Fore-finger on the front trigger, middle finger on the back one .:sneaky: Wouldn't want to try it on a big NE double though !

Enter the Minefield of Double Rifles from Baikal

Hi GKNOX Double rifle barrels are usually thinner than their single barrel (in the same calibre) counterparts? It is because there are are two of them supporting each other and makes for tasty/pointy balance. (Apologies if preaching to the converted but you did say)
