22-24 is ideal, no loss of performance at all with modern powders. I've gotten 2700fps out of a 22" barrel with 270gr barnes. Long barrels are no good in Africa.

I really like it all, never had waterbuck though. Eland is probably my favorite. Ate lots of impala on one of my last trips, I could eat that every day.

Tom---if we really wanted to score a big hit with this crowd, we need to make a Farquharson action true to form of a Gibbs and chamber it in some interesting caliber like this 375 2.5". I'd have one....has anyone ever dissected one of those to see if it could be done?

ebay is a good place to start. Looks like there are a bunch of them on there now that are pretty low priced, may be new old stock, refurbed at factory, don't know....I'd check it out.

Nothing quite like hitting them with a 500 Jeffery, but I just sold it. It will be a 416 Rigby, 458 Lott, or 470 double on the next one...first world choices for sure
