Chainsaws and those who use them

My good buddy who is a recently retired professional forester from Cologne, Germany highly recommended the Stihl electric chainsaws. My wife likes mine so much I hardly get to use it at our BC bush camp. I usually keep it in the truck to clear the way on narrow logging roads where fires have...

    My first Snipe

If you'd like to compare ruffed grouse, woodcock, and snipe, the photo below is from the only day when I took all three on the same hunt. It was memorable.

    My first Snipe

I love hunting snipe, and do so every chance I get. In fact a snipe was the very first game bird I ever shot, which was when I was ten years old. I stalked close and shot that bird in the head with a Daisy red rider BB gun, at a distance of three or four paces. My mother good-naturedly cooked it...

And in case you don't like clicking links, here's the text of the article above: Let’s talk about the moment Donald Trump blinked. It wasn’t loud. It wasn’t a tweetstorm or a rally rant. When the tariff threats that had the world on edge—125% on China, 25% on Canada’s autos, a global trade war...

Here's a Canadian explanation of what happened to the markets last week. Many of you will not like the message, and will attack the messenger, as usual. I think it is a worthwhile read...

If hard work made you rich, every farmer would be a billionaire. But they are not because the system does not reward labor, it rewards leverage. Far too much of the current version of Capitalism is about exploitation, not effort. USA is exploiting its capital leverage to piss On and piss Off its...

    Shotgun choices for a Woman

Models built specifically for women are usually required for good fit. Women have longer necks and narrower shoulders than men, and the stock needs not only less length but more drop at heel and a higher comb. Smaller radius grip, and narrower grip helps too. And lighter barrels. It all adds up.

Chainsaws and those who use them

I use four different Stihl saws and they have served me well. Two industrial models at our British Columbia bush camp, a little electric one at home, and a light / cheap trail saw at our Saskatchewan hunting camp. Settled on Stihl because that's the brand local dealers stock and service. And...

    Binos for Africa

Moody, you have received lots of good advice already. My personal favourite that has served me well on my last three safaris is the Swarovski CL companion 8x30. Easy to use one handed, clear image and not too powerful. Good value for the money. I changed out the carry strap for a longer one that...

    Save Valley Conservancy

I hunted buffalo in the Hammond concession with Mokore & Dalton McClintock three years ago. Everything was first rate, lots of game, and excellent hunting. Toured Mokore's home concession too at the end of the successful hunt. I'd go back for sure!

Bringing 2 guns on a dangerous game hunt?

When I hunted elephant in that area with CMS two years ago, the elephant hunt was all done the first day. So after that I was hunting impala and wildebeest with a .416. It worked OK, but if a 9.3 was available instead, it would have been nicer to carry and nicer to shoot. I greatly prefer...
