The cream of wheat method works great; I have used it quite a few times forming .375 H&H to 8mm Rem Mag. The only thing I can add from my experience is check your chamber area often for little cream of wheat "donuts" left behind from combustion, canned air would take care of any debris that you...
I purchased the Spatan Quad Sticks a few months ago and so far, like them. I have been using the Spatan bipod because I didn't want a bipod permanently attached to my rifles while hunting, so the quad sticks seemed like the logical choice since I have several adapters on different rifles. I like...
Great story and congratulations! It's remarkable that at your age you are willing to sacrifice material items to experience a hunt like this with your family, you will see even more later on in life how special this trip was.
It seems you are doing the best you can with the hand you were given. Your report brings back memories of my first "away" big game hunt in 1986. I chose an outfitter in West Texas that hunted trophy antelope near Cornudas outside of El Paso. I was in my mid 20s and money was tight but managed to...
My vote would go for a Browning B S/S Sporter 20ga. They can be had in the price range you're looking for. These are very nice, durable shotguns, straight grip with the barrel selector behind the trigger guard. They were manufactured up until 1986 but still available (used but sometimes as new)...
It would be a good idea to ask your outfitter what the expected shot distances would be. Wind drift with big low bc bullets might be a bigger concern. You can compensate for drop but drift can be fickle. I have been hunting Newfoundland most every year since 2010, most all the moose I have taken...
You have amazing writing skills! Your whole journey was well described; I found myself purposely looking for and following your posts. I am really excited to hunt with Lloyd and Sive next June.
Great Deal!!
I have six pre'64 70s in my collection, I grew up reading the writings of Jack O'Connor and enjoy the nostalgia of hunting with them. They are, in my opinion one of the best rifles ever produced. If you would like some informative reading, the book "The Rifleman's Rifle" is...
I can't wait to read more of your experience; my Wife and I hunted with Marius in 2019 and had an amazing trip. Since then, there has been a couple of failed attempts on my part to get back with KMG. We were supposed to be there around now, but I was hurt last fall when moose hunting and still...
If you find one, be sure to check firearm parts import regulations into South Africa before you purchase it. I recall a member of AH was attempting to do something similar and it wasn't working out due to the regulations of firearm parts.
As Rare Breed said go to Mckenzie and check out the Peace Of Mind hanger. I have a large moose with one of these and it works great, it's also easy to hang knowing you're bottomed out in the hanger with your lag bolt.
Meopta 8x32, we have 3 pairs that were made for Cabela's Instinct Euro line. I compared them to Zeiss and Swarovski and felt they were sharper and brighter that the Zeiss and as good as the Swarovski (at that price point) I don't think they are available from Cabela's now, but Euro optics might...
