.375 or .416 for Cape buffalo?

I think this totally depends on bullet type/construction. A CEB brass solid will likely penetrate deeper the faster it goes as it does not deform at all. My recovered slugs look like you could reload them after going through 4 feet of animal. An expanding bullet what you said makes sense and is...

.375 or .416 for Cape buffalo?

Thank you for the insight. My 458WM with 19.5" barrel shoots 2330 with 450gr CEB solids. 2380 with 420gr CEB safari raptor brass bullets. This is meeting or even exceeding most 458 Lott loads with longer barrels so for sure I believe it to be enough power.

.375 or .416 for Cape buffalo?

I've shot it with and without the can. To be honest I can handle both, but without the can there's much more muzzle rise and it's slightly sharper impulse. I only plan (for now) to continue hunting in South Africa. If the off chance I go to Botswana for a Zebra hunt, I'll likely borrow a rifle...

.375 or .416 for Cape buffalo?

I bought a 458 win mag for buffalo and possibly future elephant. I recently went on a buffalo and hippo hunt. Both died in 1 shot with a 375 Ruger and cutting edge bullets. Kind of thinking the 458 was silly to buy now but I like the rifle and it's shorter and lighter than my 375 Ruger so I will...

458 Swift A Frame 450 Grain for Buffalo

This is the bullets I use in 375 and 458 as well. I find it performs much better on game than the Barnes

    Want To Sell Steyr 9.3x62mm

Make sure it's legal. many places require .375 caliber or larger. That said, a 250 TSX should be enough for buffalo but is a little on the light side. I took a 1 shot kill on a buffalo with a 270 .375 but was a brass bullet. I'm sure as long as the shot is good you'll have no issues. I assume...

    I'm going for a 416 Rigby

I have a 375 Ruger Hawkeye FTW 22" with a 3.5-10 power scope and red dot on top (piggy back) and primarily use Barnes 270gr LRX bullets which are amazing between 75-300 yards where I take most my shots with this rifle. I also have CEB 275 and 300 grain bullets I've used on Eland and DG. I use a...

looking for a pelican double rifle case

Here you go for some options bud: Pelican Eylar (max protection and size) Plano (integrated TSA approved locks and what I used a few weeks ago to go to SA) All have wheels as well which is a very important feature IMO. I'm a 35 year old pretty strong guy, but some of my long range rifles are...

looking for a pelican double rifle case

You'd be better off buying one on amazon. With shipping costs it really does make sense to buy second hand not to mention it will be cut for someone elses rifle that won't fit yours perfectly. I suggest on a budget look at plano 52". Since one is a double it should fit that and a scoped rifle...

.458 Lott vs .458 Winchester recoil

Without a chrono it’s almost pointless to discuss. Barnes bullets tend to be slower than brass and cup and core bullets and pressure out sooner usually I’ve found. I’d imagine your Lott bullet is more significantly slower than you 450 tsx load. It’s impossible for a Lott to recoil less with the...

Further concerns on use if a .375 H&H for anything at all...readers be warned

My PH in SA used a 375 CA 550 as a backup rifle for a hippo and buffalo hunt. It's all he uses for dangerous game backup except on elephant he borrows a 458 win mag. I will say he's a hell of a shot though. I used a 375 Ruger to take a buffalo cow 1 shot in the neck. Dead 100-150 yards away...
